Overview

Mike Judge's hilarious animated celebration of a man who loves his country, his family, and propane (not necessarily in that order) gets the royal treatment for its release on DVD. King of the Hill: The Complete Second Season has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Surround; in addition to the original English-language soundtrack, alternate Spanish-dubbed tracks also appear, as well as optional subtitles in English and Spanish. Bonus materials include commentary tracks on selected episodes from the show's writers and producers, as well as "in character" commentaries from the show's cast members. The show's directors also provide introductions to many of the episodes. Other goodies include additional scenes, animatics, and alternate endings; a guide to drawing the King of the Hill characters yourself; music videos; selections from the book The Boy Ain't Right; and more.

This mainstream animated sitcom from Beavis and Butt-head creator Mike Judge truly hit its stride in this second season (airing between September 21, 1997, and May 17, 1998), as the characters began to develop contextually and seem less like, well, cartoon stereotypes culled from Judge's Texas childhood. The season opener, "How to Fire a Rifle Without Really Trying," underscores the growing development, as target shooting helps Hank Hill and his young son, Bobby, learn valuable lessons about themselves. Wallace Shawn guest-stars in this episode as Phillip Ny, the psychologist Hank turns to in hopes of improving his aim. The season's second episode, "Texas City Twister," remains one of its all-time best and was the one the producers successfully submitted for Emmy consideration that year, earning a nomination for Outstanding Animated Program. The teleplay found Hank kicking his niece-in-law, Luanne, out of the house and back to the trailer park; only to have second thoughts when news broke that the facility was endangered by tornadoes. Complications slow Hank's desperate race to save his niece and wife, Peggy -- who had left with Luanne -- from the encroaching twisters, but a happy ending is never in doubt. What's unexpected, though, is Hank being stripped nude by high winds and delivering his mea culpa with a potted cactus protecting his modesty. After this auspicious start, King of the Hill remained on high ground for much of the remaining 20 episodes of Season 2. The DVD collection offers lots of goodies, including commentaries, deleted scenes, and episode introductions by Mike Judge.

I have been a fan of King of the Hill since I was a child! This DVD box set is very well organized and neat! The DVDs are very cool with different times of the day on them. The first DVD has Hank with a day background, the second DVD has Dale with an evening background, the third DVD has Boomhauer with a night background, and the fourth DVD has Bill with a morning background. They all look VERY awesome! And the quality of the episodes on the DVDs are excellent! There is also many cool special features, deleted scenes, and alternate endings! I am a very satisfied customer!
