Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
After three years, Texas suburbanite Hank Hill (voiced by series creator Mike Judge) hasn't changed much. He loves his beer; his job at Strickland Propane; his family: wife Peggy (Kathy Najimy), son Bobby (Pamela Segall), and niece Luanne (Brittany Murphy); and his pals: Dale (Johnny Hardwick), Bill (Stephen Root), and Boomahuer (also Judge). But the down-home animated comedy series King of the Hill had a Texas-sized celebration in its third season (1998-99) with an Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program, thanks to several excellent episodes. The season opens with the poignant "Death of a Propane Salesman," the conclusion of the Season 2 cliff-hanger wherein Luanne's boyfriend, Buckley, was killed in the Mega Lo Mart propane explosion. "And They Call It Bobby Love" guest-stars Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar as a 14-year-old hall monitor the younger Bobby falls in love with. Peggy's spirits lift when she begins writing a newspaper column, but when she discovers that Dale's wife, Nancy (Ashley Gardner), is having an affair with John Redcorn (Jonathan Joss), it turns into "Peggy's Headache." "Pregnant Paws" finds paranoid exterminator Dale becoming a bounty hunter, while Peggy and Hank discuss the possibility of having another baby. Hank's father, Cotton (Toby Huss), announces his new wife, Didi, is pregnant as Peggy fails her 12th pregnancy test in "Next of Shin." Hank gets a chance to swim with a dolphin, enjoying it until the aroused creature attacks him in the hilarious "Return to La Grunta." The season highlight, though, is "Revenge of the Lutefisk," wherein Arlen's new minister (Mary Tyler Moore) invites the members of the congregation to a luncheon. Unfortunately, Bobby takes a liking to the minister's homemade lutefisk and burns the church down after lighting a match in the bathroom following a bout of intestinal distress. As with the previous two seasons, Season 3 of King of the Hill impresses with its array of voice guest stars: real-life good ol' boy actors Billy Bob Thornton and Matthew McConaughey; country singer and actor Dwight Yoakum; legendary comedians Betty White and Phyllis Diller; jazz trumpeter Chuck Mangione; and ‘80s stalwart Erik Estrada.

I am a very big fan of King of the Hill. I grew up watching it as a child and this DVD box set brings back ALOT of fun childhood memories. This season is so hilarious and awesome! The DVD box set layout is very neat and organized! A great buy! I am very happy and satisfied I bought this!

The episodes in this season were great. However, the DVD release lacks any special features. The first two seasons contained deleted scenes, commentaries, easter eggs, ect. But nothing for this season. Has Mike Judge and Fox gotten lazy? Perhaps.
