This is NOT a good children's anime, but a good adult anime. Kino is a girl riding around from country to country on a motorrad named Hermes, both intelligent and fluent. She will meet many individuals in each of her three-day visits. She is armed and efficient with guns and the episodes can be violent. A excellent and thought-provoking series.

The show is amazing, but the product is bad. I bought this DVD shortly after watching the show because it's pretty much the best anime ever made. This is not the complete collection, nor is it the complete series. There are a pilot episode and two episode-length "movies" missing(and definitely not enough material on their own to justify a separate DVD release). The font used in the translation is fuzzy, hard to read, and unpleasant to look at.

Why should I buy this when the bootleg version is not only free, but superior? The company that produced this particular distribution, AD Vision, is no longer in business, so at least they can't be supported anymore. Don't buy this if you're already a fan of the show. At least find another distribution that has the pilot episode. If you value your eyesight, the niizk fansub of the show has a clear, colorful, and unobtrusive font, and they go the extra mile for the first "movie", preserving a relevant plot point by coloring in different gender versions of the same sentence, that would've been lost in translation if it hadn't been done.

I can't think of a single person I wouldn't recommend this show to. It's smart, it's not insulting to the audience, it's beautifully animated, it has loads of adventure with just the right amount of violence, none gratuitous. It even has wordplay that translates well from Japanese to English. Just make sure you watch episode 0, "Country of the Tower", first. It establishes the characters.

This is not only the best anime I have ever seen, but also the best show. Now that I've said this, I may flop back and forth between this and Serial Experiments Lain being my favorite. This show is violent and has deep meaning behind it which would make it unsuitable for children. However, this show is full of beauty, adventure, friendships, struggles, life lessons, and unforgettable characters. I highly recommend this show to anyone who likes to spend time just thinking to his/herself about the hidden beauty of the world. This show my even teach you something about yourself and how you look at others.
