La Guerre Est Finie

Overview

La Guerre Est Finie has received an excellent transfer, though the disc itself is movie-only, hardly an impediment for those wishing to have a high-quality edition of this title. The film has been transferred anamorphically to maintain the original 1.66:1 aspect ratio, which will result in sideboxing on widescreen monitors (and computers) and windowboxing on regular televisions. The source print appears to be a new low-contrast print, which leaves the various shades of grey a bit less distinct than they perhaps ...

The source print appears to be a new low-contrast print, which leaves the various shades of grey a bit less distinct than they perhaps should be. Black levels are overall good, with moderate shadow detail. No compression or enhancement artifacts appear visible. The image is moderately sharp throughout, though it has an overall look to it that might be described as "ambient softness." The transfer is comfortable to watch. The film has been transferred with new subtitles, presented in yellow against the image when the subtitle option is activated. The original French soundtrack is presented in dual-channel mono, and has undergone full remastering and clean-up. There are occasional small pops and clicks, but hum, hiss, and general noise seem to have been removed without harming the music, effects, and dialogue. Image has also provided the option to view the movie with the English-language dub, which features both a solid voice cast and excellent matching.
