The legend comes to life, however, when the dreaded Captain LeRogue's ghost appears in the bayou and chases the three frightened youngsters until they become hopelessly lost. Upon discovering a curious little creature named Lebou whose unmistakable whistles were once said to be the inspiration for jazz, the three friends discover that greedy oil moguls are about destroy the wetlands in a bid to turn a tidy profit. Perhaps if the kids can recruit Captain LeRogue to frighten the opportunistic intruders away, the wetlands will be preserved for generations to come, and Lebou can live in peace.

    Your kids will love it!

I was recommended this movie from a friend of mine whose child loved it. I have a six year-old daughter who just absolutely fell in love with this movie. Every time the character of Labou comes onto the screen her face lights up. This movie gives the kids adventure, pirates, lost treasure, and a great ending. The 3 young actors in it are great and believable. It is a great family adventure movie to watch and provides the kids with a moral lesson. I will definitely let my child watch this movie over and over again.

    Great family film!

I saw Labou with my 8 year old niece and several of her friends and we
absolutely loved it! The film has an interesting mixture of fantasy and
adventure that is reminiscent of the some of the classic kids movies of
the 80's like Goonies and ET - The Extraterrestrial. It has all the
ingredients of a great kids film: an intriguing story line (3
mischievous kids in search of long lost pirate treasure), memorable
characters including a ghost pirate, two wily oilmen and a mystical
swamp creature (the "Labou"), and compelling themes around the value of
friendship, trust and perseverance in the face of adversity. The movie
had nice pace to it, the actors were funny and memorable, and the
culture of Louisiana was on perfect display throughout the film,
including some poignant shots of the French Quarter and the surrounding
bayous. Although the film is clearly geared toward kids, its story and
script had broad appeal for audiences of all ages. Kudos to MGM for creating another instant family classic!

    I Also Recommend:

    Bravo to MGM!

Thank you MGM, a big studio who has finally delivered a film with adventure, smarts, and fun! We families need more of this kind of film. My kids loved the whistling creature Labou! And I could kick back and not worry about anything with this very G rated film. Excellent all around, I highly recommend it!

    Remember the Goonies?

I loved the goonies growing up, and this film has all the elements of that 80's classic, plus hints of Gremlins, ET, and Explorers! It was the first children's movie I was able to enjoy with my kids in a long time. I laughed when they laughed, and I found myself getting excited when they decided to watch the extra features. If you want quality time with your kids, without the headache of brainless children's entertainment, share this movie with you kids! Labou is adorable!
