Overview

So what's under the water in that lake deep in the Maine woods? No one is sure what it could be, but a dead and severely mutilated body was found near the shore, and the only clue is a large tooth which appears to be from a prehistoric animal resembling a huge crocodile. Jack Wells (Bill Pullman), the local fish and game warden, is investigating the case when he's assigned a helper, paleontologist Kelly Scott (Bridget Fonda). Kelly generally does office work since she hates the outdoors (a drawback in her line of work) and is recovering from a breakup with one of her co-workers. Jack would just as soon handle this matter without Kelly's help, but with time, the two get used to each other and something beyond a working relationship begins to develop. Meanwhile, Jack and Kelly also have to deal with Sheriff Hank Keogh (Brendan Gleeson), who would like to find the mystery creature and kill it; Hector Cyr (Oliver Platt), a quirky mythology expert who wants to capture and study the beast; and Mrs. Bickerman (Betty White), an eccentric older woman with dubious stories about her missing cattle -- and missing husband. Blending suspense, humor, and romance, Lake Placid was written by David E. Kelley, creator of the popular TV shows Ally McBeal and The Practice, and directed by Steve Miner, whose credits range from TV's The Wonder Years to the films Forever Young and Halloween: H20.

It scared me in my younger days, but it's interesting and full of action now.

Black Lake in Maine is being prowled by something.Shreiff Hank Keogh (Brendan Gleesan) just wants to find the monster and kill it,but when a museum sends a palentologist named Kelly Scott (Bridgt Fonda) to study a tooth thought to be a fosil she, with the help of Hank and a Fish and Game man named Jack Wells (Bill Pullman), find a moose head in the lake. When on land a rich, cooth mythology exepert named Hecter Cyr (Oliver Platt)joins the group and wants to see and study the creature. They go and visit and old woman named Mrs. Bickerman (Betty White) who claims to have killed her husband, but Hank thinks differently. I fully recemend this movie to anyone whos likes suspense, humor and horror all roled into one.

This is good movie, when it come to action it's awsome, but it lack's a good story line. It's a good story line but how the croc grow's up is pritty stupid, but then again I like stupid movies wich is why I recomend this movie to any horror flick people or just plain thrill seeker's, and I suggest you watch this movie with the light's off, it's alot more scary that way

'Lake Placid' is a great movie. It is very funny, especially the parts with Betty White. It wouldn't be as much fun without her and her story about killing her husband. Definetely worth renting.

Terrible movie with actors acting terribly. Briget Fonda was so unpleasant and shrieky that you wish the croc would eat her. And Bill Pullman pulled his usual boring smirky acting job "again root for the croc". Oliver Platt tries mightly but there's nothing left to do but swallow back what might have been.

Lake Placid is a basic horror-love-drama mix. It all starts when a person is killed by a crocidile. Jack, a fish and game officer, comes to figure it out and Kelly, a palentologist, is there to help him out. Jack is sure that he could do without Kelly, and Kelly feels the same bout Jack. Soon, they find that they hate each other less, and to their amazment, find them selves in love. They also have to put up with Sheriff Hank, a small town Maine sheriff, and Hecter, a mythology professer who searchers thew world for crocidiles. This is a must see movie with action that will have you sitting on the edge of your seats.
