Only a handful of live recordings were made during Led Zeppelin's decade-long run atop the rock 'n' roll charts, most notably the Madison Square Garden performance recorded in 1973 and released several years later as The Song Remains the Same. This new collection, supervised by guitarist Jimmy Page, includes footage cut from that seminal if sometimes sloppy documentary, plus material from other gigs that is sure to prove revelatory to the group's legion of fans. In addition to the Song Remains outtakes, the material here comprises cuts from gigs at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1970, Earl's Court in 1975, and the Knebworth Festival in 1979 -- a mind-blowing five and a half hours of pure electrifying Zep. Special features include excerpts from Danish and French television performances; rare interviews with Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones; and behind-the-scenes footage from Knebworth. With one foot in the blues, the other in progressive rock, and a thunderous sonic assault that would become the foundation of heavy metal, Led Zep stood beside the Who and the Rolling Stones as the true monsters of 1970s rock. This DVD collection -- together with How the West Was Won, the three-CD box set of additional archival audio recordings released in tandem with it -- will only enhance their legacy.- We're Gonna Groove
