The sound is decent. Even though it's in Dolby 2.0, there are a few scenes that offer some excellent sound usage. There are also extras, the most notable being a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. In addition, viewers can watch a message from star Kirk Cameron that details the film's unique marketing strategy (it was released on VHS and DVD in fall 2000, followed by a theatrical run in February 2001), as well as detailed bios and a handful of trailers for similar films. There has been word that a widescreen, extras-laden edition is somewhere in Left Behind's future. In the meantime, this version, while not enough to bowl fans over, offers just enough to keep them satisfied.

In one chaotic moment, millions people around the world suddenly disappear. Mass confusion hits while vehicles suddenly unmanned veer out of control, fires erupt and hysteria breaks out as the living stare in disbelief and fear at the empty places where their loved ones were just seconds before. This is the rapture, the first sign to begin the unraveling of the end of time. Kirk Cameron stars as a reporter who gets caught in the turmoil, experiencing the rapture first-hand. Left Behind: The Movie is an exciting, direct-to-video feature based on the bestselling book.
All Movie Guide
Any overtly religious film has the potential to provoke anger, especially among those expecting anti-Semitism to rear its unfortunate head. But Left Behind is a reasonably inoffensive way of addressing a plot that's not much different from a dozen mainstream studio films: a Biblical prophecy comes true in modern times. This is not to say the film inspired by the wildly successful fundamentalist novels is actually good; it just doesn't yield many controversial moments, nor many howlers, for those seeking a good laugh. In this way, it's a little boring. The B-level personnel and execution is never that distracting, even Kirk Cameron as Buck Williams, the hilariously named intrepid reporter. And it doesn't actually have much of the pious dialogue that polarizes audiences, until the very end. Before then, there's some genuinely unsettling stuff surrounding the disappearance of millions, who are later revealed to be the "true believers." Where the film goes wrong, losing awareness of its agenda, is in the spiritual awakenings of skeptics like Williams, and Brad Johnson's airline pilot. One of the basic tenets of religion is that it's based on faith, meaning the absence of observable proof, but these two central characters convert to godliness only because they're confronted by a preponderance of evidence. With the Bible's words borne out with blow-by-blow accuracy, the film makes it impossible not to attribute such scientific impossibilities to a heavenly influence. The sinners don't choose to repent -- logic forces them to, as an attempt to buy their way into Heaven. Maybe it's Left Behind's devout audience that should be frustrated, rather than its secular one.

I read all the books at least 4 times each. If I saw the movie before I never would have been interested in the books.

I was so excited when I saw the movies for rent in Blockbusters. The movies were awful. I was so disappointed that I warned others not to rent or buy them. The movies were cheap and the wrong characters were cast. I imagined the main male characters to be tall; at least 5'11, medium build w/ dark hair (except Ben Judah). He should have been shorter and heavier. What happened to the special effects?? Had I seen the movie first I would have never read the books.

After years of waiting and reading the novels, the movie version of ''Left Behind,'' the bestselling series of all time is finally being made a reality! The movie based upon the first novel has already been directed, produced, and made into a wondrous display of filmmaking at its best! Coming from a non-mainstream Hollywood studio, ''Left Behind: The Movie'' was created by the Christian film studio Cloud Ten, in association with Namesake Entertainment. With a history of cheesy acting, effects, and all of the other criticism surrounding Christian filmmaking, ''Left Behind'' from the beginning was put against a huge barrier. However, the product that is now in stores and about to hit theaters is completely different from any previous ''Christian movies.'' It¿s much better. With stellar acting jobs and a story that will both captivate you with its suspense and warm your soul with its deep Biblical message, ''Left Behind'' has the ability to stand up to many of the films put out year by year from Hollywood. Most notable among the cast are Gordon Currie, who at first portrays Nicolae Carpathia as a kind, sensitive hero, and Clarence Gilyard with his heartfelt depiction of Bruce Barnes, the minister left behind. Among the rest, Chelsea Noble, Brad Johnson, and Janaya Stephens each almost perfectly fit my mental image of Hattie, Rayford, and Chloe, respectively. Although at first I had some opposition to Kirk Cameron as Buck, most likely from my remembrance of him as Mike Seaver on ''Growing Pains,'' he worked his way into the role of Buck wonderfully and by the middle of the film, I couldn¿t picture anyone else as his character. Despite the budget being smaller than the mainstream, this film is by far the best to come from any Christian filmmaking studio ever. Even the special effects, which are being redone for the theatrical release, show great improvement from past attempts. Although it may not have the big ''blow-it-up'' effects of some blockbusters, the story is what is most important. With the sequal, ''Tribulation Force,'' in pre-production and ''Left Behind'' about to hit theatres, the hype doesn¿t seem to stop. This isn¿t just a movie. It¿s an attempt to reach the world and show it what life is all about. There¿s something different about this movie, and it¿s all because of that one man who was God incarnate and suffered the cross for us. Jesus.

I have just begun reading the Left Behind book series and recently viewed a copy of Left Behind: The Movie. May I say that Christian or not, this is a very entertaining film. The special effects are spectacular and the acting is realistic. The movie has some cool music soundtracks and some scenes almost made me cry from emotion. The movie also has some cool camera shots and creative dialogue twists that kept me interested and involved during the movie. I thought it was more realistic than an average Hollywood production because it visited different countries like Israel and Jerusalem and made me more aware of the possible uses of the United Nations. Left Behind is the action-drama that every Christian/Non-Christian should watch if they have any doubt of whether they will or won't be Left Behind!

This film has plenty of action and lots of drama. It really makes you think about this stuff, especially as we see the events in the Middle East and elsewhere,in the news. Just what will happen and what will each of us do when it comes?

Very disappointed in the movie version of the book. Too many differences from the print version. Am glad I paid only half the list price.

This is the best movie I have seen in 30 years.

Great movie. Just like the #1 bestbeller Left Behind the book, the movie is a #1 Blockbuster. One of the best Christian movies I've seen since The Omega Code, and it will make it in the secular world.

If you have not seen this movie or read the books, I stronly encourage you to do so. This is a powerful true story about the end times and could be the difference between life and death for some. Praise God for this film and the ''Left Behind'' book series as well.

What a surprise when I watched this movie and discovered that not only was it loyal to the book it was actually really well done. I admit I was skeptical in the chance this movie would be a quality film. Great casting. Terrific adaptive work. Look foward to seeing many more in the series.

Truly inspiring performances given by the entire cast. Kirk Cameron is fabulous! The quality of the production is first rate. True to the books spiritual message, this is a movie I would recommend to anyone no matter what their beliefs! Fast paced, keeps you thinking the entire way through. You must see this movie. Cloud Ten Pictures, do it again!

This film made such an impact on me and my children. Made me think if I was ready for Jesus to come back. It made such an impact that I decided to read the whole series of books. In the act of reading ''Nicolae'' the 3rd book in the 12 book series. AWESOME!

This video is a MUST see! I cannot wait to see it on the big screen in February. The book series is incredible and this video makes it even more real.

After reading the book series I was a bit hesitant to see the movie. But I couldn't resist. This movie was, seriuosly, the book on film. It brought the novels to life. Sometimes I would get a little overwhelmed by the books and lose sight of the meaning but when I saw the movie it filled in those blanks of who's who and what was going on. Now I want to go back to the book series because I know I'll understand more now. I can't wait for it in theaters.

I became a fan of the well-written God-inspired authors Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye. They are right on with Bible prophecy. They have eloquently and clearly painted a picture of the end-times. The books are truly an eye-opener for everyone. The book, likewise, id definitely worth your while. This movie should have been at least 2 hours, but they still got some scenes in directly from the book. They streamlined the whole story, yet they were true to the main points of the book. This is definitely one of the best movie depictions of a book. I highly recommend it!!!

Usually the difference between a Hollywood movie and a low budget or ''b'' movie is ''quality.'' The story can be great, but the quality usually makes it hard to watch. Bad acting, bad special effects, bad everything. I say usually because Left Behind: The Movie is the exception to the rule. For a low-budget small studio production, Left Behind has the excitement and awe af any big budget thriller out there. The Lalonde brothers did an awsome job in casting and filming. The special effects are top notch. Yes it was a direct to video movie. But that doesn't mean it was too horrible to go to the big screen. Cloud Ten Productions has an inspired idea to release the movie to video then create an excited climate to allow the film to be released in theaters. This is just the first movie that is based on a series of books by Tim LeHey and Jerry Jenkins. I hope Hollywood can see that there is a audience for a christian themed movie. With prayer and support they will see that the No. 1 one direct to video movie can become the No. 1 movie in America. When it is released into theaters in Febuary 2001, I will be there to see it and I will cast my vote for it being the best movie of the year. Until then I encurage you to watch it and read the book series. It can truly change your life.

Kirck Cameron gives a riveting performance in this ''Must See''. Based on end times Bible Prophesy this action packed, nail biting, on the edge of your seat movie, will leave you in a state of awe, and desperately awaiting a sequal.

Rayford, Buck, Chloe--all Left Behind. Men, women, children, disappeared--vanished, leaving their clothing, glasses and jewelry as signs to where they had been. Where did they go, the signs are clear---

I loved this movie - I would definitely recommend it! It is very true to the book, and it is a high-quality film, well written, acted and produced. It is a real thought-provoker, a film that everyone should see!

Left behind the movie is an excellent way of getting out the word. Those who have never or rarely go to church of read their bibles should diffently see this movie. Although I must admit that I thought the book was SO much better, for those who have not read the book or THE Book, this is a great tool. Go see the movie when it opens in theathers.

If you enjoy special effects, romance and have a curious nature about what may possibly happen in the end times, this movie will appeal to you. Kirk Cameron delivers a character quite different than the irresponsible school boy most of us know him as. The supporting cast does a believable job in bringing out a story that many people don't find interesting, or unable to believe may happen. The movie does jump around quite a bit and at times is hard to follow, not recommended if the kids are asking all kinds of questions(Is there really a God?, Can I have some more popcorn?). The movie may make you reconsider the premise of faith and(heaven forbid) take a deep look inside yourself to see what your beliefs are. If you are not a religious person before watching this movie, please remember that the information being given is subject to interpretation and these ideas may be offensive to some groups of people. Overall, this movie has general entertainment value but also delivers what most movies do not give, an ethical and moral film that is suitable for teens and adults.

If the book series hasn't impressd upon you about your need for Jesus Christ in your life and why you don't want to be ''Left Behind'' when the Rapture occurs, then the movie will dramatically impact you with action and content matter. I was impress with how the director stayed close to the storylines from the book series of the same name. I gave the movie video 5 stars. This is a must see video and soon to be released movie to the big screen. The Bible says that Jesus Christ will come like a thief in the night. So, wouldn't you want to be prepared to meet Him when He comes...rather than being ''Left Behind?''
