The underdog has her day in the 2001 comedy Legally Blonde. MGM has done a very good job on this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, making sure that the pastel colors and flesh tones are bright and bold. A near-perfect transfer, Legally Blonde sparkles while having no edge enhancement, shimmer, or digital artifacting present anywhere during the film. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 (as well as Dolby 2.0 in Spanish and French). Directional effects are utilized mainly during scenes that feature rock or pop songs playing over different visual montages. Overall dialogue, music, and effects are all clear of any distortion or hiss. Also included on this disc are English, French, and Spanish subtitles. Legally Blonde features some well-produced extra materials for viewers to peruse through. Starting off the supplements are two commentary tracks: one by director Robert Luketic, producer Mark Platt, and actress Reese Witherspoon; and the second by various crew members and writers. Both of these tracks are very informative and fun, especially the first track with Reese Witherspoon joking around about her mammoth hair changes. To compliment these commentary tracks is a "Trivia Tack" that includes information bubbles on the film that can be played while the movie is running. Two featurettes are included, "Inside Legally Blonde" and "The Hair That Ate Hollywood," and both include interviews with both cast and crew discussing their thoughts and ideas on the final film. Finally, there are eight deleted scenes (with introductions by the director) that run about 15 minutes long, a music video by singer Hoku, and a theatrical trailer for Legally Blonde and the DVD release of The Princess Bride. All in all Legally Blonde is a great disc from MGM and is acquitted of all charges against it.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Michael Hastings
Reese Witherspoon adds yet another plucky striver character to her resume with this mostly successful attempt to merge the superlative teen film Clueless (1995) with the fish-out-of-water courtroom farce My Cousin Vinny (1992). Legally Blonde has all the right elements for light entertainment: appropriately overzealous production design, an unflappable heroine played to giddy perfection, and a supporting cast that stays just south of over-the-top. And yet the comedy doesn't quite sing, in large part due to first-time feature director Robert Luketic's ineptitude with staging and shooting. For a movie obsessed with image, Blonde is poorly lit and clumsily framed: Luketic's deference to close-ups all but robs the film of Witherspoon's talent for physical comedy, and an extemporaneous, mid-film musical number fails to register. Still, as a showcase for its ebullient, never-condescending lead performer, Blonde shines, even if its young director doesn't show the same promise as his star.

Ever since I first watched Legally Blonde, when I was 7 and pink was my favorite color, I thought about Elle Woods as a role model, she was literally everything I wanted to be as a adult - pretty, blonde, had a super cute small dog, used the best outfits (hey, I was 7!) and most of all, she was smart and determined to get what she wanted (even if it was a boyfriend). Years had passed but I still think that Elle Woods is a great character to look up too, she is there to show that pretty does come with brains, and with nice too! Of course that right now I realize that her initial motives were completely wrong (applying to a college and a curse you know nothing about/has no interest on just because of a boyfriend is totally a no, no for me), the drama on this one is over the top and the characters are somewhat ridiculous with the stereotypes (Warner really takes seriously his role as the ex-boyfriend dickhead), and the outfits don't tempt me anymore. But Reese Witherspoon performance turns this into a laugh out loud comedy, full of heart, making impossible for you to not cheer up for Elle and hope she finds her patch on Law School. Also the romance is so sweet, it doesn't get much screening time but it still manages to win your heart, because every talk Elle and Emmett have is so funny and cute you will probably be glad when she finally realizes what a looser Warner is.

This movie goes to show that everyone can achive anything as long as they believe. This movie is about a soroity queen named Elle Woods who gets dumped by her boyfriend because he wants to be a lawyer and needs a more serious girlfriend. So Elle applies for Harvard Law School where Warner goes (her ex-boyfriend) that she can be the serious girlfriend he wants. Elle gets accepted and soon later gets chosen to be apart of a case. Warner is apart of the case too. Also in the case is a man Elle dosen't know but soon falls in love with. In the end Elle wait I will leave that to you to watch and figure out. This movie is Fanatastic and will make you want to watch it again and again.

This movie introduces you to a California, blonde, sorority sister (played by Reese Witherspoon) who both easily defeats ever obstacle put into her path and wins the audience. This movie is both fresher and has more shock 'cuteness' than the sequel, Legally Blonde II. It is a fable of outrageous fantasy that can bring a smile to the most dedicate begrudeon.

Reese is my favorite actress. In every movie she just shines and makes the movie better than it would have ever been! In Legally Blonde- she really makes you see life the way she sees it. This movie is also refreshing to watch. Reese is portrayed as a normal girl who knows what she wants in life, and knows how to get it. She shows determination!! Legally Blonde IS worth viewing!!!

An excellent, heart-warming, feel-good movie, if ever there was one! Reese Witherspoon, as Elle Woods, is a care-free, fun-loving California beauty who proves that blondes not only have more fun, but they can be smart as well.

The title fits this movie so well. It tells about what you can expect to find while watching the movie. As soon as I watched the movie I knew that it would be a movie that I could watch repetitvely without it getting old. I bought it the first day that it came out on video, and i watched it twice when it was in theater. In fact, I think that watched it 5 times the first day i bought it. It is a movie that, I think, almost the whole family can enjoy. This movie will never be left to gather dust on my shelf.

Legally Blonde became a blockbuster hit, because people had fun when they saw it. Before and after seeing it my opinion went from ''looks good'' to ''excellent.'' Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods who prooved to the world that anything is possible regardless of how other perseive you. I recommend it for the clean humor, the storyline, and the charm that Reese brings with her to the screen. Buy it today

What can I say, gentlemen prefer blondes. Resse Witherspoon is exceptionally adorable in movie. The sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde is being released July 2 (2003), so be sure to catch that too! Reportedly she's being paid $20 million for the sequel (whereas she only made $2 million for the original).

This is a movie ''keeper'' if there ever was one! The plot reminds me of a more grown-up ''Clueless!'' Reese Witherspoon shines as an extroverted optimistic golden girl determined to make friends and regain her boyfriends's love in ultra-conservative Harvard University. Apart from an ocassional week moment the plot is very fluid with good continuity. It's a feel-good film if there ever was one!
