Reese Witherspoon stars in this romantic comedy, the feature film debut of award-winning Australian director Robert Luketic. As a ravishing Miss Hawaiian Tropic, sorority president, and calendar girl, Elle Woods (Witherspoon) is a big hit on the campus of her sun-drenched Los Angeles college. She's also got the perfect boyfriend in Warner Huntington III (Matthew Davis), a wealthy East Coast blue blood. Fearing that his snooty friends and family will never accept the bubble-headed Elle, however, Warner dumps her before heading off to graduate law school at Harvard University. Determined to win back her man, Elle enrolls in the same imposing institution, quickly becoming an object of scorn and ridicule, especially to Warner's old prep school flame (Selma Blair). Despite her penchant for malls, makeup, and tanning, Elle is no dummy and is soon showing elite Ivy League snobs a thing or two about class, self-confidence, and courtroom victory.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Michael Hastings
Reese Witherspoon adds yet another plucky striver character to her resume with this mostly successful attempt to merge the superlative teen film Clueless (1995) with the fish-out-of-water courtroom farce My Cousin Vinny (1992). Legally Blonde has all the right elements for light entertainment: appropriately overzealous production design, an unflappable heroine played to giddy perfection, and a supporting cast that stays just south of over-the-top. And yet the comedy doesn't quite sing, in large part due to first-time feature director Robert Luketic's ineptitude with staging and shooting. For a movie obsessed with image, Blonde is poorly lit and clumsily framed: Luketic's deference to close-ups all but robs the film of Witherspoon's talent for physical comedy, and an extemporaneous, mid-film musical number fails to register. Still, as a showcase for its ebullient, never-condescending lead performer, Blonde shines, even if its young director doesn't show the same promise as his star.

Ever since I first watched Legally Blonde, when I was 7 and pink was my favorite color, I thought about Elle Woods as a role model, she was literally everything I wanted to be as a adult - pretty, blonde, had a super cute small dog, used the best outfits (hey, I was 7!) and most of all, she was smart and determined to get what she wanted (even if it was a boyfriend). Years had passed but I still think that Elle Woods is a great character to look up too, she is there to show that pretty does come with brains, and with nice too! Of course that right now I realize that her initial motives were completely wrong (applying to a college and a curse you know nothing about/has no interest on just because of a boyfriend is totally a no, no for me), the drama on this one is over the top and the characters are somewhat ridiculous with the stereotypes (Warner really takes seriously his role as the ex-boyfriend dickhead), and the outfits don't tempt me anymore. But Reese Witherspoon performance turns this into a laugh out loud comedy, full of heart, making impossible for you to not cheer up for Elle and hope she finds her patch on Law School. Also the romance is so sweet, it doesn't get much screening time but it still manages to win your heart, because every talk Elle and Emmett have is so funny and cute you will probably be glad when she finally realizes what a looser Warner is.

This is a movie ''keeper'' if there ever was one! The plot reminds me of a more grown-up ''Clueless!'' Reese Witherspoon shines as an extroverted optimistic golden girl determined to make friends and regain her boyfriends's love in ultra-conservative Harvard University. Apart from an ocassional week moment the plot is very fluid with good continuity. It's a feel-good film if there ever was one!

The title fits this movie so well. It tells about what you can expect to find while watching the movie. As soon as I watched the movie I knew that it would be a movie that I could watch repetitvely without it getting old. I bought it the first day that it came out on video, and i watched it twice when it was in theater. In fact, I think that watched it 5 times the first day i bought it. It is a movie that, I think, almost the whole family can enjoy. This movie will never be left to gather dust on my shelf.

Legally Blonde became a blockbuster hit, because people had fun when they saw it. Before and after seeing it my opinion went from ''looks good'' to ''excellent.'' Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods who prooved to the world that anything is possible regardless of how other perseive you. I recommend it for the clean humor, the storyline, and the charm that Reese brings with her to the screen. Buy it today

The movie's title tells a little bit of the humor expected in the movie. The fact that a sorority girl can run a court case is highly questionable to many people. Elle Woods (Witherspoon) gets dumped by her Harvard Law School boyfriend, because she is not a 'model senator's wife'. Elle Woods works very hard to fix herself to go to Harvard Law School. She doesn't really want to become a lawyer; she wants to get her ex-boyfriend Warner back. Little does she know that he has an old girlfriend back in his life a real 'model senator's wife'. Now she has to get him back.

This is Reese Witherspoon's finest performance yet. Although the reasons for her entering law school are questionable, she soon shows everyone that she is no dumb blonde, as her former boyfriend had thought her to be. This movie is full of witty jokes and gets you cheering for the right side. You'll want to watch it over and over again. It gets better each time.

An excellent, heart-warming, feel-good movie, if ever there was one! Reese Witherspoon, as Elle Woods, is a care-free, fun-loving California beauty who proves that blondes not only have more fun, but they can be smart as well. Elle is into fashion and her boyfriend, Warner. When he dumps her for being 'too blonde,' she enrolls at his college, Harvard Law School, in an attempt to win him back. Elle dislikes law school at first, but soon realizes that she has a real knack for courtroom legalise and embarks on a course to become the top graduate in her class. Reese carries the role very well: smart, funny and with an innocent sexuality, not to mention 40 different hair styles! A movie you'll enjoy watching over and over again!

I would have to say, this is one of Reese's best comedy roles! She has such a knack for comedy, especially in her facial expressions, body language, etc! I actually saw this movie from a recommedation of a guy friend. So, this is definitely not limited as a chick flick. It's a universal comedy! The basic premise of the movie: Reese's character gets into Harvard to be w. her ex-boyfriend. But, it's the ''how'' she gets into Harvard that is the most hilarious part of the movie! Here's a comedy bit from the movie: ''I also love to use legal jargon in my everyday life...'' (a boy passes by and gropes her butt) Reese's character says: ''I object''...

I absolutely loved this hilarious,charming,feel-good movie!it's cute, funny, yet very touching all at thesame time. The cast is absolutely perfect-Reese Witherspoon is brilliant!!!!!!And i loved Jennifer Coolidge's role as the ''middle age high school drop-out with stretch marks and a fat behind''!Even though by definition it is a teen movie,i believe that it's perfect for all ages and all occasions!

Reese Witherspoon has tak'in the stage in Legally blonde! This movie is about an LA young girl who goes to a small fashion college. Then she finds out that her boyfriend is going to harvard so she becomes a lawyer. Soon she finds out that he is engaged. Watch to see what happens!

It's not Citizen Cane or The Godfather but if you are looking for an uplifting movie that will put you in a good mood and keep you there for weeks, this is it! I didn't even know who Reese Witherspoon was and when I first started to watch it, all I kept thinking was this was a bad ''Clueless'' knock off. But I gotta tell you, this movie won me over like very few movies do these days.

This movie is the best. It teaches you to believe in yourself. Elle can be a good lawyer, and she does become one. This movie teaches you to not always listen to people when they say negative things about you. You have to believe in yourself to sucseed, and Elle does that. The title, Legally Blonde, is a great title for this movie. It helps to show that blondes can do things right. Reese Witherspoon does an excelent job in this movie!

Reese is my favorite actress. In every movie she just shines and makes the movie better than it would have ever been! In Legally Blonde- she really makes you see life the way she sees it. This movie is also refreshing to watch. Reese is portrayed as a normal girl who knows what she wants in life, and knows how to get it. She shows determination!! Legally Blonde IS worth viewing!!!
