Overview

" Tammy Wynette's untimely passing before she turned fifty-six years of age gives the country superstar a bit of the ""Marilyn Monroe effect"" on this marvelous collection, the singer retaining her lovely features and charm throughout the playing and the interviews on Shout Factory's Legendary Performances: Tammy Wynette, a project developed in conjunction with Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Michael Gray, museum editor, writes three pages of liner notes on these ""vintage television performances"" and gives specific information in the booklet (and on the DVD) as to where each track was taped, along with definitive credits which are sadly lacking on many similar DVDs. This superb, loving and respectful collection features 15 performances in chronological order, the main event forty-five minutes long including interview footage tucked inside from The Bill Anderson Show in 1967 to a 1981 minute long conversation added before the final tune, ""Cowboys Don't Shoot Straight (Like They Used To)"". The artistry is, of course, top notch, with each exquisite cut worth viewing again and again as well as the four ""extras"": three and a half minutes chatting with Lee Greenwood, a four minute interview with Dick Heard, Huell Howser's exclusive news broadcast of the July 6, 1978 wedding to producer George Richey (quite the event with 30 police as part of the tight security - including a policeman in a boat to keep uninvited guests like The National Enquirer and other paparazzi and fans away from the extravagant yet somewhat intimate ceremony) and seven and a half minutes from the September 23, 1998 posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall Of Fame. The sixty-six minutes fly by with the package giving a sweet snapshot of her interesting life and a clear and precise look at some of her many contributions to the arts. See Legendary Performances: Marty Robbins - it's a good companion piece in this series put together by the same staff that coordinated this project."
