I loved this film. It is one of the best I have seen. Brad Pitt is amazing as are the rest of the cast.
This is one of those movies that everyone should watch. I loved the plot and the character. This movie has just about every emotion in it. It pulls you into the early 1900 century.
This was the best movie ever! I so totally loved it!
MY WIFE MADE ME WATCH IT, AND I ASSUMED I WOULD HATE IT. I ACTUALLY LOVED IT! BEAUTIFUL SCENERY AND GOOD ACTING. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT.
since i was seven, when the movie came out, i have lived by this movie. it is amazing, and beautiful, the casting is fantastic. definitely brad pitt's best role.
Being a fan of Sir Anthony Hopkins, I couldn't miss this movie; I decided to 'endure' it for the sake of the actors (I have heard before of it, being a poor soap-opera). It was devastating. So full of feelings, one of the few movies that determine man to think. A tipical little town, 3 ordinary soldiers, their drama, feelings and lives. Not any other rubbish, without brave warriors (ex: Steven Segal), simple and realistic, beautiful to watch, yet unknown and underestimated; if you read this and have never seen the movie, try it. I doubt you will be disappointed.
Ed Zwick (Glory, The Siege, Courage Under Fire) directs an all-star cast in this tale set in the early 1900’s about three brothers who fall for the same woman. Col. Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) retired from the Army after his disagreements with the U.S. Government over the policies regarding the treatment of Indians and moved his family to Montana and away from what he called “The Madness”. He raises his three sons Alfred (Aidan Quinn), Tristan (Brad Pitt) and Samuel (Henry Thomas) on a sprawling ranch and they grow up with the benefits of a classical education and a deep felt desire to live to please their father. Now grown men, Samuel comes home from school with his fiancé, Susanna Fincannon (Julia Ormond) in tow. The brutality of WWI reaches home through an article in a weeks old newspaper and Samuel decides to enlist in the Canadian Army to fight. Alfred goes with him in agreement over what’s going on and Tristan decides to go to watch over his two brothers because it is their Father’s unspoken request. When tragedy hits, the family is broken to pieces and may not recover from the pain. Beautiful camera work and a dramatic story make this film a keeper. So does the impressive ending when Tristan finally meets up with the Bear. R- Language, Violence, Nudity and Sexual Content
This is the multilayered, complex romance that put Brad Pitt into the names business of highly charismatic leading male roles, which is for better or for worse. Ugly World War 1 comes along and irrevocably changes them forever in this romance with the beautiful Julia Ormond pulling off a dazzling performance. Like many Americans of that age, the family became bootleggers into one of our country most complicated political controversies. An American family in the American century where the director didn't cow tail to the usual soap opera type plot.
i'll be honest i'm not like a fan of brad pitt but after watching this one word comes to mind...wow. it goes to show that even the pretty boy can act and did a good job in this film. this is basically about 3 brothers, and the girl. the locations were authentic and beautiful.
Beautiful movie. I will never forget it. The tragedy of human emotion is especially powerful in this film. Wonderful acting, terrific scenery, and a beautiful soundtrack. You will not regret watching it.
