Overview

Walt Disney's beloved space alien finds that his adventure has only begin when Dr. Hamsterviel breaks out of prison and creates an army of evil Stitch twins in a nefarious attempt to overthrow the universe. Having been rewarded for capturing all 625 experiments by being allowed to choose precisely where they want to reside in the galaxy, Lilo, Stitch, Pleakley, and Jumba are soon troubled to discover that the devious Dr. Hamsterviel has escaped the confines of prison and forced Jumba to create Leroy -- a troublesome doppelganger of Stitch with an unquenchable appetite for destruction. When Dr. Hamsterviel begins to clone Leroy in hopes of creating a powerful army with which to rule the stars, Lilo, Stitch, and the rest of the gang must come together to conquer an enemy whose strength lies in numbers and defeat the dreaded doctor once and for all.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Disney bids "aloha" to the Lilo & Stitch TV series with this made-for-DVD feature that captures all the warmth, quick wit, and mischievous exuberance of the franchise. All but one of the 625 unleashed genetic experiments seen in the original film have been captured, turned from bad to good, and given a place where each belongs. In sort of a reverse Wizard of Oz, a heartbroken Lilo (Daveigh Chase) must summon the "aloha" spirit and let her three friends -- Stitch, former evil genius Jumba (David Ogden Stiers), and self-proclaimed Earth expert Pleakley (Kevin McDonald) -- take their rightful places in the galaxy. But things get all shook up when Dr. Hamsterviel (still taking his outrageous accent from the taunting French knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail) compels Jumba to create Leroy, who's just like Stitch, only red, and with "extra destructive capabilities." As with the earlier Stitch films, this new entry reinforces the concepts of family, friendship, and good karma ("rhetorical questions" are also instructively defined); Elvis is represented on the soundtrack with "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and "Jailhouse Rock." As Lilo learns, it's hard to say goodbye, but it's harder to imagine Disney pulling the plug on such a popular member of the studio's "ohana" (family).
All Movie Guide - Skyler Miller
Clocking in at just over 70 minutes, Leroy & Stitch is a satisfying aloha -- in this case, goodbye -- to Lilo & Stitch: The Series. The high quality of the ABC/Disney Channel series was a pleasant surprise to fans of the 2002 film, continuing its good-natured, offbeat spirit while introducing the ingenious plot device of having the titular duo capture and rehabilitate Stitch's 625 "cousins." As Leroy & Stitch begins, all of the cousins have been saved, causing Pleakley, Jumba, Stitch, and Lilo to go their separate ways. Writer Jess Winfield has a clear fondness for these characters, and gives each their due in a story that centers on Dr. Hamsterviel's creation of an evil Stitch clone named Leroy. Series viewers will get a kick out of appearances by familiar cousins, as well as the heroic emergence of a previously lazy, sandwich-loving "villain." Those who haven't seen the show may not have as much appreciation for some of the underlying relationships, but they'll still enjoy the Elvis tunes, high-quality voice acting, and a fast-moving plot that mixes frenetic action, sentimentality, and a few laughs. While not nearly as engaging or emotionally rich as the original film that inspired it -- in particular, there's a big missed opportunity for Leroy's redemption -- all in all, Leroy & Stitch is a fitting wrap-up to an enjoyable animated series.
