Overview

This DVD version of Les Miserables celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Broadway show with a "dream cast" of its best actors and actresses (including Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean and Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, plus nearly 250 chorus members who have played in the show through the years. This special presentation is made up solely of the show's musical numbers, directed by John Caird and Trevor Mann and with the score performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The remastered Dolby Stereo on this DVD is worth the price alone, and the widescreen presentation is also superb. The one negative factor is that viewers must turn the DVD over to watch the second act. Among the many extra features are subtitles that enable the viewer to follow along with the lyrics as they are sung. Other features include a photo library, synopsis, biography of Victor Hugo, and talent files.

The best performance I've ever listened of this superb master piece. Better in performance than the movie record. Singers are much better than the movie actors: Rusell Crow... i.e.

If there were ever a musical (or even a movie) that touches the soul and captures all of your emotions like you have never experienced before then this is the musical for you. The performances are superb! You can truly feel the pain and agony that the people of this time period had experienced through the words and music and acting. No one could ever do a better job portraying Jean Valjean than Colm Wilkinson. Philip Quast is truly remarkable as Inspector Javert. You truly believe he is on a mission. You can truly feel the pain and agony and the loss of respect and dignity of Fantine, played by Ruthie Henshall. I have not seen anyone else play that role as well as she does. She is truly remarkable. If this is not in your dvd library you should have it. It is well worth watching and it is truly a classic.

Lea Salonga did an awesome job as Eponine! A Little Fall of Rain made me cried! Michael Ball was truly the best Marius in this cast, and once and foremost COLM WILKINSON. No one can be a better Jean Valjean but him. I love little Gavroche too, this is definetely worth keeping in your CD library
