Overview

License to Drive finally makes its debut on DVD with Anchor Bay's fine Special Edition DVD release. Loaded with bonus features, the disc is a must-have for fans of the film and should prove to be a hot seller on the store racks. Presented in its original 1.85:1 widescreen format with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, the film rips the '80s into big-screen, high-quality life. Extras begin with two separate interviews from the Coreys, each pretty in depth on the production, with Feldman's being a bit on the egotistical ...

Presented in its original 1.85:1 widescreen format with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, the film rips the '80s into big-screen, high-quality life. Extras begin with two separate interviews from the Coreys, each pretty in depth on the production, with Feldman's being a bit on the egotistical side, especially after you hear the real stories as told by director Greg Beeman and writer Neil Tolkin on the audio commentary. Fun, boisterous, and worth every listen, the two act like they're preaching to their kids as they jokingly point out such forgotten artifacts as vinyl records and audio cassettes throughout the film. Another gem on the disc comes in a full 13-minute deleted scene, which was shot but then tested poorly before production was called back for excessive reshoots (they opted instead to go with the drunk driver scene after the roadblock, oddly enough!). Other than that, add in two trailers and another pair of TV spots and you have the whole disc, complete with informative liner notes. Fans could ask for little more from 20th Century Fox and Anchor Bay on this exceptional DVD.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Jeremy Wheeler
Other than their first pairing in The Lost Boys, 1988's License to Drive remains the other highly entertaining outing from the '80s duo that could do no wrong -- Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. Thanks to a madcap script from Neil and Michael Tolkin, the partying teen dreams blossomed with the vehicle, playing up both their natural talents before their egos got the better of them (see the following year's Dream a Little Dream for the first inklings). On the supporting front, Richard Masur and Carol Kane couldn't be funnier as the parents, with other juicy bits provided by future Fresh Prince Dad James Avery along with the one and only Heather Graham in her big-screen debut. A sizable hit in the theaters, License to Drive remains a late-'80s classic thanks to its sizable success in the theaters and later as a mainstay on cable TV and video.

The Perfect Light Hearted 80's Film

I can't help but smile when thinking of film and television icons from the 80s. From The Dukes of Hazzard to Knight Rider, from Max Headroom to Magnum PI. But there were two actors who's body of work pretty much sums up all that was wonderful about the 80's-- Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. License To Drive (1988) is a GREAT film that stars both the Coreys when they were in their prime. With great hair and great 'tude they made this film an unforgettable timestamp of the era. Haim plays Les Anderson who like every high school kid has two things on his mind--cars and girls. But Les doesn't have the hots for just any girl, no, he has his eye on the most beautiful girl in his high school [played by the one and only, Heather Graham.] He finally scores a date with her, but needs to get his Drivers License first. Well, this is where the real fun begins. License To Drive really has it all. It's good clean teenage fun start to finish. With a totally killer soundtrack and extras to the max, the DVD is well worth your time. Crank up the sound and fasten your seatbelt because you are in for one hell of a ride.
