Overview

Reviled by critics, Life Or Something Like It gets a second chance on home video. The DVD has it's good points, but isn't anything out of the ordinary. On the plus side, the picture is brilliant in every respect. Presented in both the theatrical ratio of 2.35:1, and anamorphic, and a severely cropped pan and scan, the image is just what one expects from this digital format. Colors are captured perfectly, while darks are solid. Flesh tones are a particular high point and very realistic. The sound, while nothing really to complain about, also isn't overly interesting. Yes, dialogue and effects come across nicely, but the lack of any real surround material doesn't make it feel as complete. As for supplements, that is the weak link. The only thing included is a commentary track from director Stephen Herek. He is enjoyable enough to listen to, with a wide range of topical material on this scene specific track ,but even like the best commentaries, he finds himself running out of steam later in the film, leaving larger and larger gaps of dead air (fortunately the films soundtrack can still be heard in the background so there isn't complete silence). Is this a great film? Clearly not, but fans of the romantic-comedy genre will most likely enjoy the familiar trappings.

The result is a worthy woman's film and Jolie's best showcase to date.

This movie gives light into an unknown truth for us all - the inevitability that our lives will one day come to an end. When Lanie comes to her realization that her life might end within the week, she truly begins to live life as she wants, and not as she thought she wanted. She takes chances, enjoys extravagants she rendered herself from before, and loves a man for true love and not for an existence of being. Angelina Jolie stretches herself in being the bubbly character, Lanie, and shows that she can do a role beyond her stereotypes. Jolie chose a great script to out herself as a true woman - a woman living her life as she was meant to.

This movie has a really good story to it. The acting is also very good. I really thought it was a good film.

Angelina's range is observable in all her movies, if you care to look past her GORGEOUSNESS! But that's hard to do in films like Gia and Foxfire--this movie makes it easy to see her human side, and her wit. Well-casted; I liked Tony Shalhoub as the Prophet as well.

C'mon, people. This is the worst Angie film to date. She did her best with a horrific script and barely there co-stars. I know that Angelina came up with the crazy blonde wig, but it was ridiculous. If you want a wonderful and completely underrated Angelina movie, try Beyond Borders.

This movie is darling! I just rented it and now I'm here to buy it! I love the one-liner humor and the story line is as thought-provoking as a romantic comedy can be. I think my husband would even enjoy it although it is advertised like a chick-flick. I always love a film that isn't predictable.
