There is no faulting the widescreen anamorphic transfer that returns the film to its theatrical aspect ratio, nor the equally fine Dolby Digital audio transfer. Another bonus has the witty Alan Menken and Howard Ashman score on a separate audio track, while Frank Oz's audio commentary gets viewers inside of what was a very hard shoot. Director Oz is on the record as saying that his rather dry demeanor was the basis for the Muppet Bert of Sesame Street fame and he erases any doubt of that in his insightful, if humorously monotone, commentary track. There is also a fun "Outtake Reel" from the shooting which reveals why fans of the movie have reason to be disappointed in this DVD. For a few seconds of outtakes, viewers can see part of the original ending of the movie, in which the monstrous giant plants take over the world. Shot at great expense, the original, darker ending was replaced with a more upbeat (though still cynical) conclusion. In a bizarre move, Warner Home Video has botched both of its DVD releases of Little Shop of Horrors. The first release only showed the film with the original ending while this second release only gives viewers the theatrical version. Can a third DVD release that combines all the features of the first two versions and has both endings be far behind?

This very entertaining film may be the only movie musical to contain an Elvis-inspired number that celebrates a dentist's sadism. This song, shocking, funny, and very catchy, neatly summarizes the charms of this simultaneously light and dark movie musical. The major share of the film's success belongs to lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken. Their songs straddle the line between joy and satire. Musically they invoke recognizable styles ('50s doo-wop, saccharine Broadway love song), but the pointed, comical lyrics constantly collide with the music's sensibilities and the contrast produces continuously entertaining results. Director Frank Oz, arguably the finest puppeteer of his generation, does a spectacular job bringing the gigantic Audrey II to life. Former Four Tops singer Levi Stubbs gives a superb vocal performance as the cannibalistic plant. The rest of the case finds the absolute right level of outrageousness to match the cartoonish art direction. Steve Martin, playing the sadistic dentist, and Bill Murray, a masochistic patient, have a comedic scene that matches the songs for perversity and hilariousness. Ashman and Menken would go on to even greater success, penning the songs in Disney's The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

    Come on, come on, come on

    Little Shop of Horrors is one of the best movies ever. The high school in my town preformed Little Shop of Horrors and now I'm hooked on the movie. Though the movie may not take place "Somewhere That's Green" I love all that goes on on "Skid Row(Downtown)!!!!

    Feed Me Seymore! Feed Me All Night Long!

    This is a great movie. I've been a Broadway fanatic for awhile and am normally very picky. But, I'd have to say that it is hilarious.

    A little morbid--BUT HILARIOUS!

    If the truth must be told, the movie is a little morbid. But I love it anyway. The songs are hilarious, especially when Steve Martin sings his dentist song. I saw the Broadway play before watching the movie, and it made me fall in love with the plot. If you are ever in NYC and want to see a play, see Little Shop of Horrors, and then buy the movie, because you will LOVE it! This one is a winner.

    Never Gets Old

    This was my first DVD and very easily one of my favorites to watch. I was introduced to it when my high school did the play. The movie stars Rick Moranis, as Seymour, Ellen Greene as Audrey(repeating her broadway role,) plus a chorus of black do wop girls. Suddenly Seymour and the big kiss after it, makes me cry every time I watch that number. A must buy, you'll be singin' along with Rick and Ellen, havin' a blast!

    Biggest 'Little Shop Of Horrors' fan ever!!!!

    Funniest musical ever with a fantastic cast. Steve Martin was awesome in this movie.

    if you like'' musicals ''...YOU NEED TO SEE THIS!!!!

    Great, hillarious ,wholesome musical comedy, with easy to understand songs.It's a cute love story done with ingenious imagination and creativity. A definite must-see for kids 7+years.
