Overview

Starring two of the leads from American Pie, the 2000 teen comedy Loser comes to DVD with this release. Talent files, interactive menus, production notes, scene selection, and the "Teenage Dirtbag" video by one-hit wonders Wheetus ought to be enough to make this disc appealing to fans, but what really makes Loser a winner is the widescreen 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer and audio selections. Along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, there Dolby Digital Stereo audio tracks in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Also included is a standard 1.33:1 pan-and-scan transfer and subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Director Amy Heckerling, who previously struck paydirt with her great youth-oriented comedies Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Clueless, mines the same vein in Loser, an amiable little comedy reuniting American Pie stars Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari. Biggs takes center stage as the titular teen, an eccentric but sweet small-town boy who heads to college, where roommates taunt him and fellow students openly laugh at him. A chance encounter with Suvari, a worldly-wise coed, inspires him to change his image in an attempt to win her favor, but she's only got eyes for smarmy professor Greg Kinnear. Topical references, pop-culture iconography, and contemporary street slang aside, Loser tells a story as old as the movies themselves. The diffident-young man-pining-for-brash-young-cutie plot goes back to the nickelodeon days. But Heckerling brings her own style and sensibility to this timeworn material, and elicits perfectly calibrated performances from her talented young stars. The Loser DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette and music videos taken from the film's upbeat score.

Seriously, this movie was painful to watch. The main charactor (Jason Biggs) was so much of a hurt bag that you actually stop feeling sorry for him. There are so many good college movies out there. try some of those.
