Don't overlook well-earned "R" Rating

This hilarious, yet serious, film is for adult and mature teens...for many reasons.

The two children on the front make it look family friendly...but some very adult-type conversation goes on between the Liam Neeson character and his "son" including a "we did it in this room!" comment. That seemed very inappropriate even in an "R" film.

I would have LOVED this movie made at a "PG-13" level!

One of the Best

I loved this film. I loved how the most fairy-tale endings still hinted that "Happy Ever After" is never a guarantee, because real love isn't that simple. It is important note why some were so put-off by "pornography". There is one story line that involves nudity, side views, in the context of the making of a porn film, and if they weren't in the show I'd love to let my young children see this fantastic story. They'll have to wait until the end of high-school, and then I think that they'll LOVE, actually, this wonderful, quirky, intimate film.

I love this movie!

This is definitely a movie for someone who actually pays attention to the plot. There are several stories being told within the movie, but they are all interesting and innovative. I have to admit, I laughed, cheered, and even cried a little. It is not an easy task for me to find a movie that keeps my interest from beginning to end, since I have always preferred reading to watching movies. It is even a movie that my husband enjoyed, even though it could be considered a "chick flick." It truly is a rare gem of a smart comedy.

Delightful and romantic

Whereas some people may get the impression that this is a typical Hugh Grant movie, the plot does not center around him at all. There are several love stories taking place (some unrequited) and many of the characters intersect. The director explored many aspects of love- from crush to flirtation and many ages as well. Although this story takes place during the Christmas season it is not a Chistmas movie. The performances are excellent and the characters believable (albeit the airport security is not)no movie is perfect.

A perfect romantic comedy

This is my favorite contemporary Christmas story. It's actually several different stories all taking place simultaneously. The music is especially endearing and I find myself singing the songs long after the movie is over. It's a perfect romantic comedy.

Many kinds of love

This winning film starts out with the premise that, contrary to popular belief, the world is full of love, not hatred. By watching the lives of 8 different pairs of people in London, England, some of the many different types of love are explored. There's platonic, seen in the relationship of an aging rock star and his manager, and puppy love, as a young boy develops a crush on a classmate. There's unrequited, when Mark's best friend marries the woman he wants for himself, and the specter of infidelity, when a husband's eye is caught by his secretary. Throw in a couple of cases of loving from a distance, and a junket to Milwaukee to hook up with some of those hot American girls, and there's all sorts of mistakes and magic going on. The finale, though relying heavily on coincidence, is fascinating as all the main characters are brought together at a school Christmas pageant. No deep philosophy here, just good, engaging entertainment provided by a stellar cast and witty director/writer. A bit too racy for children.

not all love

I saw this film at Christmas when it came out, and was very disappointed. There is more lust than love in this movie. One man is trying to break up his best friend's marriage, another man buys gifts for a woman other than his wife (with the intention of having an affair), and another couple begins their relationship while filling in for porn stars. I think the plot of the movie had great potential, but instead it ends up glorifying adultery and lust. Its good parts do not outweigh the immorality of this film. It isn't about love. It is about each individual getting what they want. True love is selfless.

Very Good

This movie is very good. England's finest actors/actresses are together in this romantic comedy about typical complications of love. Not your steriotypical scenerios either, since not everything works out hollywood perfect in the end. If you're like me and love Keira Knightley don't get too excited. Not that her acting isn't superb (like always) but she is very underused and probably has something like a total of 15 minutes in the movie. This movie is made up of a lot of stories, so try not to get lost. I reccomend watching it twice so you get everyone's story straight. And like I said earlier, Keira's story isn't very long... oh well. It's still a really good movie.

Love Actually (the title is TRUE)

I watched this on christmas day. It was a GREAT MOVIE. There are some very inappropiate scenes, but otherwise all of the small love stories go perfectly well together. I like how it doesn't all turn out perfect, but it gives a good ending.

GREAT idea...but gets trashy...too bad

This "R" rating was well deserved...the language was raunchy especially bothersome was the foul launguage used by a parent talking to a child. Most of these story ideas could have been a FABULOUS PG-13 film, but you've got to wade through a lot of visuals and audio that make this unfit for teens...or even some adults. This film needs editing!!

Great movies, great actors

This movie is just chock full of great lines and faces, all delivered flawlessly by some of our favorite actors from "across the pond". Has a "Eight Degrees of Separation" effect that makes it a bit difficult to follow the script at times, but it will make you want to watch the movie again! A must-have for all fans of ANY of these performers.

String theory

The string theory plot of Love Actually is a nice change of pace from your typical romantic comedy. The interactions and fringe contacts of a plethora of quite humorous characters is refreshing. The soundtrack is also a great character in this film, obviously focusing on love and on Christmas as the movie is set in the six weeks leading up to the big day.
The cast covers a former drug addict musician making a comeback, Britain's new PM, his sister's family, a widowed man and his stepson, a stand-in actor/actress, a Portuguese maid, one lusting office employee, one lovelorn office employee, and a best friend who is hot for his buddy's wife, just to name a few.
Be on the lookout for the masterful bit performance by Rowan Atkisson as an overly helpful jewelry salesman and airpor traveler.
The movie weaves a tapestry of everyday events in the ordinary lives of people and connects them is one fine way. At the end, much like in "The A-Team", you can say "I love it when a plan comes together".

A movie to actually love...

This is one of the few movies I watch over and over again - it is my guilty pleasure each holiday season. Funny, sweet, sad, happy, it has it all, though it doesn't end perfectly for all characters, others do all right, sort of like real life. Some very funny scenes along the way and a great cast!

I've rarely hated a movie as much as I hated this one

Wow, is this a misogynist movie. It's an absolute fairly tale for men - in one story an ugly guy goes to the US and has a 5-way with a bunch of models because they like his accent - but it's a nightmare if you are a woman over 30 - Laura Linney's character is ridiculously selfless and can never ever have a relationship with anybody for the rest of her life because of her violently insane brother who is in an instituation where he has access to the telephone 24/7. Apparently the filmmakers think this is the way women should be.

And don't even get me started on the travesty of the Emma Thompson story line. She's such a good actor and it's so painful to see her abused like this.

This is a great movie for people who think that romance and fairy tale endings are only for men. It's a "romantic comedy" written as if by an evolutionary psychologist.

The fact that this movie is popular shows how stupid and unperceptive most people are - or just plain misogynistic.

I confess...

I did not watch this film when it first came out. But recently I caught part of it on tv, then bought it and watched the whole thing... again and again. It reminds me of the way a Dickens novel ultimately connects all of its characters in a network of corresponding planes. Yes, it's sentimental, and yes, sometimes we just need to indulge in a sentimental feel-good film.

A Great 'group' of Christmas stories

This movie intertwines a multitude of relationships that culminates at the end. An absolute must-see movie!!!

Wow, and I didn't even finish it!

I actually didn't completely finish watching the movie and I'm going to give it a GREAT rating! I'm even going to purchase the film whenever I get the chance because I would love to see it's ending. The movie was light hearted and fun. It revealed to the reviewers how important and how BIG love is in our lives. People just throw that word around so easily and they don't realize it's great importance. I can't wait to find this movie, buy it, and continue watching it. Great actors, great storyline....100% reccommended! Buy it!

The Reality of Love

I don't usually write reviews but had to respond to the 2 star review. This is a movie about love in real life. It is not a fuzzy musical romance movie where everything is perfect. I'm sure It's a Wonderful Life is availible if that's what you're looking for. This movie, is about finding love in the real world. Love is not allways convenient, nor is it ever easy. This movie is about getting beyond all of that, and getting to the perfect love that presents itself at often imperfect moments. It has a social commentary element on how we find love, and how sometimes love finds us. It is an excellent film and entertaining as well.
