Overview

In the family-entertainment tradition of his multi-talented father Michael Landon, writer/director Michael Landon Jr. offered this made-for-cable frontier drama, adapted from a novel by Janet Oke. En route to her new home in the West, Marty Claridge (Katherine Heigl) suddenly finds herself a widow, with no roof over her head or means to support herself. At the gentle prodding of her settler friends Ben and Sarah Graham (Corbin Bernsen, Theresa Russell), Marty accepts the marriage proposal of taciturn widower Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff). It is strictly a business arrangement, with no romance or cohabitation involved; Marty will act as housekeeper to Davis and as teacher and surrogate mother for Clark's sullen nine-year-old daughter Missy (Skye McCole Bartusiak), and in return she will receive food and lodging. Pragmatists both, Marty and Clark assume that they will dissolve their marriage of convenience when the spring thaw comes...but that isn't how things turn out. Love Comes Softly first aired April 13, 2003, on the Hallmark Channel.

It is so amazing to find a movie than can be watched by the entire family with no qualifications. The movie is beautifully done and the story is timeless. I had watched it every time I was aware that it was on the Hallmark Channel, so it seemed only fitting that I buy the entire series, which I have.

This is a movie for people of all ages. I know kids that love this movie, and I know adults that love this movie. I got my friend hooked on them. I actually think that these movies are a tad bit better than the books! This movie is pretty much the only one with the exact same plot as the book, just so you know. This movie is great! I highly recommend it.

Though the book is also good. Mary agrees to marry Clark who wants her to be a mama for his daughter Missie. Though Missie makes it difficult for Marty but the three spend time together while getting to know each other. If you read the book you'll notice some changes. This is one of my new favorite movies. One that you can watch again and again. The ending was so sweet. If you like romantic movies, or read the book then you'll like Love Comes Softly.

I really enjoyed this because it was something the whole family could enjoy. It wasn't corny and the religious aspect was very sincere. The acting was good and the casting very good. Just an all-around great movie that I love to watch!

i watched the 1st 2nd movies together and was hooked. i missed the 3rd one, and went into barnes and noble.com the next morning, and ordered all 3, so i could finish the trilogy, and have them to watch again, and to lend to friends. they are truly wonderful love stories. the 2nd and 3rd movies are: love's enduring promise, and love's long journey. i highly recommend all 3. you will love them.

I read the series loves comes softly 1-8 last summer, so when I heard they had made a movie I was thrilled. The movie does not disappoint; although it does take some creative liberty. For example in the book Missie is just two or three years old. The story works both ways. So of my favortie parts of the movie are not in the book. This is just an all around good movie. I can not wait to see the second movie.

I discovered this series last year and have watched the movies everytime they are on TV. I have also read the books Volumes 1-3 so far. I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching the movies. I have shared the books and movies with my friends. If you truly want a movie in which you can laugh and cry, love comes softly is it. I am there with Marty as she tries to put her life back together, day by day. My heart goes out to her. You see her struggle with loneliness in a strange place. Then, over time, you see her changing and discovering that she is truly not alone. She soon discovers that love does come very softly, and changes her life forever. I hope you will find these stories as wonderful and timeless as I have.

We finally found a movie our whole family can enjoy that isn't animated! Great movie to buy and own, so you can watch it again.

Uplifting and lighthearted. Entertaining. I liked this one for a change from high action and sci fi movies so prevalent these days.

This movie has more in common with the book than the others in the series, but is still not a true adaptation. As a huge fan of Janette Oke, I am very disappointed.

I love this movie. I cried with it and laughed with it. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves a story with a message of God's love in it. That is truely what this is all about in this story.

I love books by Janette Oke and couldn't believe it when I heard they have made this movie....it is a wonderful love story and I am adding it to my collection of clean, good movies. Michael Landon Jr. has also made a sequel to this movie....'Love's Enduring Promise'. I saw it on the Hallmark Channel on Thanksgiving evening and can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can buy it. If you haven't seen this movie, watch it...you will love it.

It's a warm hearted love story. I'm not much of a movie person, but there are certain movies that I would watch over and over again and this is one of them.
