    A reviewer

nice piece of work. it was cool how they made it into a musical, especially because the musical numbers related so well to what was going on in the script. nice overall, except i think the princess of france was a bit too squeaky! other than that, nice casting choices!

    A Hoot!

Delightfully silly, just as I think the Bard intended. Too bad they allowed Alicia Silverstone to sing.

    What fun!

When this arrived from Netflix, we had no idea it was going to be a musical. I'm a big fan of Shakespeare and Branagh, so I was looking forward to another unique and insightful adaptation. My husband and I popped the DVD in during dinner, and when the guys started breaking out into a song, we looked at each other and said, "Oh, no, it's a musical?" However, we gave it a chance and were both hooked by the end of the first number. I love this movie. The 1930's setting works well, and the cast is wonderful - except Alicia Silverstone. That was an unfortunate choice. Let's just say that iambic pentameter is not one of her strong points. She deals with it by squealing a lot. Nathan Lane, fittingly, steals the show whenever he's on- screen. Casting him in the role of Costard, as a traveling vaudeville player, was brilliant. I strongly recommend this film.

poor casting ruins decent writing and directing

I am a huge fane of Kenneth Branagh and admire his talent (in directing and acting)and creativity. But as with Much Ado About Nothing (a much better movie), he misses with some of his casting choices. Alicia Silverstone's abysmally bad performance, along with the lack of chemistry between 2 of the four couples takes too much away from what could be a great film.

    You too can enjoy Shakespeare!

Delightful musical romp through the pages of a Shakespearian play. The 1930's style adaption well suits it,and the music is just great. Improves upon repeated viewings. If you like musical comedies, good music and good performances-you should enjoy this film.

    Very Catchy!

This was a very good adaptation of Shakespeare novel! The whole cast shines especially Alicia Silverstone. The Plot is about the King and his 3 male friends make an oath that no woman should be aloud in their court for 3 years!.... Well that's until the princess of France comes with her 3 maid friends. You will enjoy this movie if you like comedic musicals!
