Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Mobile Army Surgical Hospital #4077 underwent major surgery in the summer leading into Season 4. Capt. B. J. Hunnicut (Mike Farrell) replaced "Trapper" John McIntyre (Wayne Rogers), after Rogers's rumored dissatisfaction with Alan Alda's disproportionate share of the show's spotlight. The segue from Lt. Col Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson) to Col. Sherman Potter (Harry Morgan) became official, albeit in a rather sorrowful fashion (Blake was killed on his way home from duty). The show's basic formula, however, remained unchanged: brilliant writing and poignant, politically enlightened comedy. Highlights from Season 4 are too numerous to list. Three particular standouts, however, are "The Late Captain Pierce," wherein Hawkeye's father is notified of his son's death and Hawkeye must move heaven and earth to inform him otherwise; "The Interview," during which a stateside reporter interviews the M*A*S*H personnel; and "The Kids," where the 4077th plays host to a group of children who have been bombed out of their orphanage. This three-disc set includes all 24 episodes of the fourth season, with the option to turn off the laugh track. It's been over three decades since the show made its TV debut, but it's difficult to imagine a series aging quite as gracefully as M*A*S*H.

While all of the MASH episodes are hilarious, as soon as they brought in Harry Morgan and Mike Farrell it really took off! Season 4 are some of the best episodes that I love to watch over and over!
