I was surprised at how easy this dvd makes it to learn these qi gong movements. They are a little bit on the masculine side, however, even with the female instructor showing a slightly different style. These moves seem to strengthen the body more than bring a sense of inner peace, which I have experienced with other types of qi gong. I gave this only a 4-star rating because the dvd does not have the full sequences uninterrupted, so students can see the transitions from movement to movement without pausing and get a feel for the overall flow of each entire fire and water sequence. Cohen tends to speak a little too quickly, and doesn't give quite enough vocal direction for students to be able to follow without having to watch the screen every time. Oddly, he presents stretches at the end of the fire sequence, instead of at the beginning. Since the fire movements are more hand and arm focused, it makes more sense to me to put stretches at the beginning, not just at the end. Last, I find Cohen's constant "clearing" of energies at the end of each movement actually detracts from the primary purpose: to cultivate qi. Perhaps I'm spoiled, but I learned from Linda Modaro's tapes, and she taught only one downward motion at the end of each movement, to pack the qi into the dan tien, rather than clear it away. When I applied Modaro's technique, I experienced a greater sense of peace and balance from each of Cohen's movements. But every student is different, so perhaps each person needs to find their own way of guiding their qi through the fire and water qi gong movements.
