    Excellent Film Treatment

It may seem heretical to worshippers of Euripedes to tranform Medea, one of the greatest classic Greek tragedies, into an art house horror flick, but that exactly what Lars Von Trier has done. Deliberately stylized, but spare, subtle, iconic and powerful, Von Trier pares the tragedy down to its essential components. Von Trier is able to make visual implications about the roles of men and women in society which Euripdes' text either elaborates on or suggests. The film also has a spiritual component not necessarily found in stage productions of the play. An unforgettable experience.
