I have watched this movie at least twenty times. I have been researching the Mighty Eighth Air Force for a few years and have talked to enough 8th AAF veterens to know that this is not the real story of the Belle. I also know that much of what was portrayed didn't happen the way it was shown. However, I have read and listened to enough personal accounts to know that this is a culmination of several stories of events that happened to numerous air crews from different Bomb Groups and Squadrons. I know that the critics have pounced on this film and not given it very good marks. However I do think that if you watch this movie, you should look at the real story of The Memphis Belle. Then take into account that some artistic license was taken in the making of this movie. You should be able to see at least some of what it was like to go on a mission with these guys. Though flawed and inaccurate, it is close enough to give us an idea of what it was really like. After you watch the movie I would like to chalenged you to find some of these old vets and ask them. They are dieing on a dayly basis, so you need to hurry before they are all gone. I do recomend this movie but I also think you should get the real story too. Thank you to all the vets that put their lives on the line for me and my country.

Granted this is a work of fiction, but it gives folks enough of a taste of what the war was like for airmen, with dashes of comedy & romance. 'Twould probably make a good date movie. My biggest disappointment was the cheap cardboard 'case' the DVD was in. Fortunately I was tossing out another DVD that turned out to be junk, so I was able to rehouse this movie more fittingly.

I think this is a great movie for those who emjoy movies about WW II. Though not completely accurate, it obviously wasn't intended to be a documentary, it's real enough to give us of the post WW II generations a better understanding of what the bomber crews went through, since this film remains available as most of the vets pass away.
