Why pictures like Meteor don't quite gel often is a mystery. The great cast (which also includes an under-utilized Henry Fonda), skilled director, solid special effects, and important message combine for only average results. I think it's the weak script, which provides minimal character development and few opportunities for a viewer to become emotionally involved. Regardless, Meteor is worth seeing for some nice moments and for Natalie Wood, whose keen talent, bright spirit, and glorious career grow more precious each year. Thank you.

Good in 1979; Now we are all too spoiled

Titanic, 12 Monkeys, Indiana Jones; Great stories, inventive, real acting. It puts Meteor to shame now, but at least Meteor had a grandiose moral statement and the acting was good for what they had to work with. 1979, 3 stars. 2004, 2 stars.
