If you are any type of Michael Jackson fan, you need to see this film. It showcases the raw, creative genius of the man adored world wide by his fans and family alike. You will laugh and cry at the same time. It truly is a heartwarming film that takes you behind the scenes of this wonderfully talented man's vision.
For more than 30 years I have adored this genius of a man and entertainer. From the firt time I saw him on TV and then seeing him live on stage, I knew he was special. Not special like a friend, but special in a way that, not until the day he died, did I realize he would not be a part of this world forever. He was just that amazing to me, and when I saw this movie, I felt a sense of warmth over me, realizing at that moment, that although he is now in a peaceful place, his time on this earth was done, and "This is It" was really his last curtain call. This is all we were suppose to see of Michael. This is it! For me it was the Michael I never got to see. The Raw, Passionate, Emotional and Hard-working Michael! I have always seen Michael if not on stage performing, in movies, doing interviews (the few that he did do) out and about with his kids, his entourage, and so on, but this was truly the real deal. Maybe it was the movie theater, the seating, I don't know, but for almost 2 hours, I was apart of Michaels world and what gave him joy. The Stage snd entertaining. He was so much apart of these rehearsals for what would have been a fantastic show, you knew this was Michael at his best, and the better of that was yet to come, but never will. But in all honesty its okay! For more than 40 years he has touched so many lives through his music and his kind heart, and although his death was a tragedy, and should not have happened, the bottom line his amazing talent and work on this earth was done. A masterpiece that will never ever be duplicated. He will not see his kids grow up and become adults, and they will never get to see their father perform live onstage, but this movie will actually give them something that a live show could not, their genius Father at work as well as being a friend to his musical family. He was gentle, kind and although strived for perfection in every rehearsal, you knew he cared for each and every person that was apart of that show. Despite all the negativity surrounding MJ, his kids will have this movie to look at over and over again, and really get to see what he was all about. They can take comfort in knowing that he was a human being, blessed with incredible talent whose music captured the essence of who he was. It is unfortunate that his dream concert will never happen, but was it really suppose to? Maybe in the end this was all we were suppose to get. If you never really understood the real MJ, see this movie, it truly opens your eyes to MJ, the human being! He had a soul, a heart, and an incredible appetite for the stage. He was married to it. See this movie and feel the Genius that graced the stage for his final curtain call. No, you will not see the glitz and fireworks that would have been a part of his show, but thats the beauty of this movie, its without all of that, and you will just get to see Michael, Raw, doing what he did best! Two thumbs up to Mr Ortega!
FANTASTIC!!! What a great movie. I can't say enough wonderful things about it. I was in awe at the sheer talent and energy exhibited by Michael Jackson. I saw a part of him that I might never have seen if he had lived, though I would much prefer he was alive. He was so at ease with everyone involved and showed what a truly wonderful human being he was. He showed so much compassion and love for the people he performed with and the human race in general. I had no idea how much work, energy, effort and thought went into his performances. I watched him fly through the rehearsals like the expert superstar that he was. There will never, ever be another Michael Jackson - no one can come close to being at his level. He knew exactly how everything should sound, when it should be heard, how loud or soft it should be, everything. And he was the man in charge - the one who called the shots at all times. I kept wondering how he could possibly know all this and be so good at it. I was amazed at his fabulous dance steps and his incredible voice. Then I realized - no wonder he is the King of Pop - he has been doing this since he was a little boy. It is in his blood, every cell of his body, it was his whole life. He was awesome in the rehearsals and I know he would have been even more amazing than anyone could imagine if he had lived to perform the London shows. It would have been his life's greatest accomplishment. But I am so pleased and profoundly grateful to his family and others who allowed This Is It the movie to be filmed. I don't know if Michael would have liked it if he knew we would see him rehearsing rather than the live performance, but given the circumstances, I know he would be happy that his family left a great treasure for his fans around the world in this movie. Of all the Michael Jackson DVDs, this one will be the most special to me. He had no idea that this would be the last show for him. I pray that he is in heaven singing and dancing with the angels and waiting on the rest of the world to catch up to him! God Bless you Michael - I will always love you and appreciate the gift of your life and talents that you gave to the world. I'll see you again one day when I get to heaven - just be sure to have your dancing shoes on!
I went to see the movie in the theater, expecting something as bad as the other Michael movies I have see. I was very surprised to actually enjoy it, and now I plan to buy it when it comes out for home. There a glimses of Michael's personallity peaking through the rehersals, showing a solid professinal man.
loved it and loved the new song 'This is it'. it is very sad that we have lost a legend.
This is it CD is a great collection of MJ favorites. I can't wait to get the DVD. Michael you are the best , now and forever. Miss you
I first saw This Is It in the theater and I thought, "WOW!" I was speechless but not surprise at the quality of the film, after all it started Michael Jackson. This Is It shows Michael Jackson as golden as he always was and on point as usual. You are not a true MJ fan if you don't own a copy in the near future. This DVD will make you cry and relive the day the world learned of his untimely death, yet it will also transmitt happiness into your soul, as it did mine. I felt thankful that I was able to experience living during the time this King was alive.
A lifelong fan of The King of Pop
This is a side of Michael so many of us have not seen. I like his music but seeing this very humble side of him I didn't expect. All we see on TV and in the press is negitive about him but you can see by the reactions of the people closest to him, the people he works with, the respect they have for the man. He does not have the blown up ego like so many stars do, the "Look at me I am here and I am boss, what I say goes" attitude. He really listens to those around him. Was blown away with emotion watching this on a big screen, can't wait to buy the DVD!!
What a gift Michael was - thank you.
Awesome documentary of what would have been the greatest musical tour ever.
The documentary portion of the DVD weaves a story that many thought they knew but it moves past the obvious and highlights just how talented Michael Jackson was. Everyone knew he could dance and sing, but the movie shows that he was involved in every aspect of the performances, down to the smallest nuances. While watching I started out tapping my foot, then clapping, then full out singing. Clearly, I found it most enjoyable and have suggested it to many friends. Be sure to watch the special features for some extra special surprises!
Truly love does live forever in this touching look at a genius at work and play lol. This movie chronicles the creative process behind what would've been Michael Jackson's comeback tour. We get to see the man behind the entertainer and get a real look at a personal side of Michael that most have never seen before. Present throughout the film is Michael's messege of peace and love. We get to see him perform the songs we grew to love him for, one last time. Although he is not in performance mode, as these are rehearsals, it is still magical. This last glimpse at what Michael Jackson was preparing for the world, the fans and his children, with such love is electric and emotional. It is worth every minute to watch. We loved u more MJ...
It made you cry, smile, and pat your foot. He was right, "This Is It". There is none other that can entertain and/or perform like MJ. God bless this family.
I thought this would be a sappy, sentimental tribute to Michael Jackson. I was so wrong! Nothing is mentioned about Michael's passing. Instead, it celebrates his music and the process he used to put together a show. Almost every song that you would want to hear him sing one last time is in this video. It was entertaining, touching at times. No matter what you may have thought about his personal life, or think about the circumstances of his death, this is just pure entertainment. A positive, upbeat look at his work and songs.
I have nothing but musical respect for Mr. Jackson. This was a great look into what he was preparing for and the behind the scenes production aspect of a world tour. I didn't get to see it in the movies when it came out and I'm not a die-hard, fainting fan of his or anyone for that matter. I never had the desire to go to any of the tour shows either. Yet I do know he's the King of Pop! I was touched in many ways while watching this. I love the music he created. Especially when he was a young boy/man. It reminds me of so many fun times I had growing up. I had a poster of him in my teens and had a Thriller styled jacket so I had to have "This Is It". Just because of the significance and nostalgia of it all. Mr. Ortega is a master at capturing the many facets of what took place in preparation for the tour before Michael's death. Any performing artist would be well off with this in their library. His fans will obviously love it. I also have to agree with Celine Dion (who was on Oprah recently) who said (Paraphrase) that she had sort of listened to the media (news or what-have-you) that he was sick and even as his friend had kind of believed them but after watching this she saw for herself that he was well and himself. He didn't look sick to me either considering I wouldn't know what sick coloring would be for him. I still feel even though he didn't look like the Michael I'm use too (his cosmetic issues) he didn't give me the impression of being sick or sounding sickly at all. He had a great deal of energy. He was having fun and like any other perfectionist and artist trying to make sure things were in sync. with music, dance and all the stage production (Lights, etc.). He wasn't doing everything full out because you don't always do everything full out you just mark movements to get the timing. He didn't sing every piece in their entirety for the same reason. He even says it, "I'm saving my voice." You can see he wants to give the shows everything he has to offer so he conserves his voice but even with that he has fun and goes there once or twice anyway. Again if you are or have ever been just a bit of a fan in some way it is something you will want to see at least once. Good Luck!
RIP MJ. I Love You XoXoXoX ~Stephanie~
My family and I set and reviewed the last actions of a great great entertainer tonight. The title "This is it" was very fitting for this film. I think that the concert would have been awesome. Michael was and shall always be "BAD"!
If you are a Michael Jackson fan, you must add this DVD to your collection. His gift, his vision, his talent, his feel for his music, is shown throughout the movie. The chorography is great and hearing his classics brings back great memories. Thriller is amazing. A great tribute to his life.
Any one can even imagine that he will be dead after that!! but everyone pointed at him in his bad moments!! everybody made a piece of dry wood on him! Now we lost him..now everybody miss him!! Who understand humans!!? This is a great video! so you can see what we lost to have alive!
What can you say about Michael Jackson he is hot, untouchable, unique, fabulous, world greatest dancer and for me sexy. this shows the human side to him and that is not shown very often. But he is a genuine man who has feelings. Miss him and love him
I am so grateful to have this last visual work of Michael's that I can treasure forever. He was a beautiful genius, and a wonderful person, and I miss him. The movie was so good and the audience was awe-inspired. This DVD gives even more! Everyone will enjoy and appreciate this!
It is better than the movie I saw in the theater; because you get to see all the extra things you did not see on the big screen.
