Overview

While most previous U.S. home video releases of Midsomer Murders collected programs originally telecast on the A&E and Biography cable channels, Set 19 presents the first part of Series 13 (2009-2010) in advance of any U.S. broadcasts. John Nettles continues as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby with Jason Hughes as his earnest, efficient protégé, Detective Sergeant Ben Jones. The four mysteries here include: “The Made-to-Measure Murders,” in which a widow is murdered on her way to confession; “The Sword of Guillaume,” which finds Barnaby traveling to Brighton to investigate a land deal; “Blood on the Saddle,’ about a dispute over property lines turns a Wild West show into a crime scene; and “The Silent Land,” the tale of a librarian obsessed with March Magna’s cemetery who is found dead on top of a grave. Yes, England’s Midsomer County is picture-perfect … but perilous. Guest stars include James Wilby, Saskia Reeves, Janet Suzman, Kenneth Cranham, Tim McInnerny, David Rintoul, and featuring Neil Dudgeon in his first appearance as DCI John Barnaby. Inspired by the bestselling novels of British suspense author Caroline Graham, the BBC mystery series Midsomer Murders initially debuted in 1997 and ran for many years thereafter. It unfolds in the deceptively serene-looking villages of Midsomer County, England, where Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) and his protégé, Detective Sergeant Ben Jones (Jason Hughes) proceed to solve one sinister and haunting case after another. Labeled as "Set 19," this collection features the first four episodes of the eight-episode Series 13, which originally aired from February 3 - August 10, 2010: The Made-to-Measure Murders, The Sword of Guillaume, Blood on the Saddle and The Silent Land.
