Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
This British drama with plenty of Highland heart returned to the BBC in December 2001 for a third series, an 11-episode exploration of the trials and tribulations of the new Laird of Glenbogle, Archie MacDonald Alastair Mackenzie. Archie has settled into this role by making the family castle into a tourist attraction, something his father, Hector Richard Briers, reluctantly agrees with this season. The collapse of the bridge at the end of Series 2 has again plunged the estate into financial trouble, causing the bank to send a no-nonsense financial officer, Stella Moon Alexandra Gilbreath, to keep an eye on its investment. Archie knows that if he objects to Moon's interference, the bank could foreclose on the estate: and while he looks to his girlfriend, Katrina Lorraine Pilkington, for support during this stressful situation, she has been offered a job in London. Her departure offers long-smitten housekeeper Lexie Dawn Steele a chance at turning Archie's head, but the Laird remains oblivious. The staff of Glenbogle -- gamekeeper Golly Alexander Morton, handyman Duncan Hamish Clark, and Lexie -- all have their own problems with Moon when she lays them off to cut down on expenditures. The staff goes on strike in Episode 2, which forces the antagonistic Moon to forge compromises, and friendships. By Episode 9 the estate has become a successful tourist stop, and Moon faces her departure from Glenbogle. But she has recognized her feelings for Archie and sabotages a party held for the investors. At the last moment, Lexie saves the day, and Archie finally notices what has been in front of him all the time and proposes to her. Series 3 eventually concludes with happiness at the upcoming nuptials, and sadness over the death of a main character.

    I Also Recommend:

    Still here and wanting more?

If you haven't found Series 1 and 2, get them along with Season three. The MacDonalds are back with new romantic twists and poignant moments and lots of laughs to boot. Stella Moon comes to Glenbogle to save the struggling estate. Can she and Archie turn it around or will they kill each other before they become solvent? Golly arrested? Will Duncan get the push? Can Lexie save the day? Will Hector win his battle with the dreaded pike? So many more wonderful and touching episodes and the mountains of Spey Valley keep me sighing and desperate for a vacation to the Highlands.

    I Also Recommend:

If you love the BBC movies, you will love, love this!

I purchased this thinking that I could watch an episode at a time, but found instead that I was staying up late, watching "just one more" of the episodes in this series. I found this to be entertaining, funny, thoughtful, an opportunity to see some gorgeous scenery of Scotland. I loved the characters and found them to be believable, yet so entertaining. I have watched it over and over. My family also have enjoyed it, plus several friends that have borrowed it. You will love being a part of Glenbogle, and watching the lives of the characters in this series.

    absolutely amazing

I didn't think it was possible, but series 3 surpassed series 1 and 2. I am so glad they got rid of Katrina. Each episode was so surprising, so different, and so good! The dialogue is as good as ever, as are the plots. The last episode made me cry. I highly recommend this to everyone. If you are even thinking about buying it, buy it, and if you've just stumbled on this page, buy series 1 and 2 now.
