Originally airing on the BBC in the fall of 2002 and eventually making its way to BBC America and PBS, Series 4 of Monarch of the Glen finds the laird of Glenbogle, Archie MacDonald Alastair MacKenzie, thinking up new and inventive ways to keep the estate afloat. With the help of the new lady of the manor, his bride-to-be Lexie Dawn Steele, Archie comes up with a plan to open a wildlife center and stock it with wolves. Unfortunately, gamekeeper Golly Alexander Morton, whose eyesight is failing in his old age, accidentally releases one of the wolves. He's ready to quit the estate until Archie and Lexie convince him otherwise. In romantic developments, Duncan Hamish Clark and Irene Rebecca Lacey begin dating until Irene admits that she's pregnant -- with another man's child. Archie's ex, Katrina Lorraine Pilkington, returns to Glenbogle seeking employment as a teacher, secretly hoping to rekindle her romance with Archie. Lexie takes this arrival badly and runs off, but Archie catches up to her, professes his love, and marries her on the spot. The final two episodes of Series 4 introduce Paul Bowman Lloyd Owen, a man who appears at the estate claiming to be the late Hector's Richard Briers son, and who will play an integral part in the series' later episodes. As Series 4 concludes, Archie must now deal with yet another elder brother, and he and Lexie leave for their long-overdue honeymoon.
