Overview

As is often the case from Sterling Entertainment, the picture quality on Money Kings is excellent. There are no visible artifacts, while the colors look very clean and the darks, which mainly comprise the film, are solid. More good news is that this film is framed at 1.85:1, though it does not use an anamorphic transfer. The sound, as with most early discs from Sterling, is two-channel stereo. Nothing spectacular, even though there are moments of creative use from the right and left speakers. The soundtrack is only in English with Spanish subtitles. This DVD also has minimal and fairly standard extras. Beyond the somewhat detailed information on most of the main cast and some of the principal crew members, there is also an effective trailer. It may not be anything to get too excited about, but with the nice menus, it's an appealing package for a smaller film.Peter Falk, Lauren Holly, Timothy Hutton, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Tyne Daly star in this gritty crime drama. Falk plays the owner of a local bar who has taken bets for a Mafia gambling ring for years, watching out for his customers and never letting them get in too far over their heads. But that all changes when a mobster appoints his hot-headed, drug-abusing nephew (Prinze) to be his new collection agent. The young gangster takes a huge bet from an out-of-work alcoholic (Hutton) who has been forbidden from gambling in the past, and when he can't pay it off, he demands the man's wife (Holly) give him her body as payment. The barkeep knows his new partner has gone too far -- but what can he do to stop him without endangering the lives of his family?
