    I liked it...especially the music!

    The obvious flaws of shooting a movie in DV not withstanding, Monkey Love still manages to compel you onwards, even if it seems insignificant and trite, and perhaps a tad contrived with the "bored college kids with nothing to do except think of their urges" approach. What really keeps the movie going is Amys narraration thruout, guiding you thru the different phases of her relationship dilemmas, coupled with well thought out music during each section. (One highlight is when Amy, feeling shes ruined her friendship with her two male cohorts, seeks "spiritual enlightenment" with some half-baked self-styled guru, who proclaims his soul-mate connection with her while simultaneously stating he's taken a vow of celibacy ,as the lyrically appropriate "Who Says", a song by Robert Kramer, plays in the background as if to drive home the point.) Other clever uses of music for feel is in the latin tinged opening song, and lonely twang as Amy roams the dark city streets in search of "Monkey Love". Jeremy Renner, who was downright spooky in "Dahmer", is totally believable as a young, testosterone-driven male who at first, writes off Amys advances as nothing more than sex play, but later, finds out there is something a bit more meaningful lurking beneath the surface between the both of them. Overall, good script, nice music, and good acting make Monkey Love a recommended, if somewhat longer than necessary pleasant diversion.
