Me and my cousin watched this on our way down to NC. It was hilarious!!!!!! Breandon Fraiser was awesome! We couldn't stop laughing and when we could we started again!!!! Must buy!!!

OK, I saw the movie in the theaters and I don't see why more people didn't like it. 1)Brendan Fraiser is always funny. 2)Animated Monkey (come on, admit it, they're always good) 3)Chris Kattan is so funny he makes up for Night at the Roxbury. 4)Rose McGowan in every cat woman style costume you could imagine. 5)Whoopie Goldburg being funny for the first time in like a decade.] 6)Tim Burton directed it. Nuff said. Also, the story was incredible. I could never have thought of half this stuff and I'm a cartoonist. Great movie, get it, view it, or miss out.

I saw Monkeybone in the theater and thought it was funny and entertaining. But I did not realize what a dark comedy animation spectacle it is until I watched it again. The movie really has many moments of brilliance, both visual and comedic. I keep finding new jokes studded throughout each time I view it. This is why I feel Monkeybone is an excellent DVD. It is definitely one that gets better each time around, and an excellent example of how the DVD medium can improve the experience of a movie. The story of Monkeybone is definitely clever, although not executed as perfectly as one would wish. It centers on the life of a rising comic strip artist Stu Miley (played by Brendan Fraser) whose Monkeybone cartoon is beginning to achieve great success. He has a car accident and falls into a coma the night that he is planning to propose to his girlfriend (Bridget Fonda). Stu finds himself in Down Town, a surreal purgatory space where coma patients reside waiting to either wake up or die. Here he finds the live version of his cartoon character Monkeybone, along with a host of other darkly rendered characters, including a great cameo by Steven King. Just as Stu is on the verge of gaining the key that will get him back to the real world, Monkeybone steals it instead and ends up taking Stu's place. Chaos ensues, and Stu has to come back to life in the body of Chris Kattan in order to win back his girlfriend. It is not the plot of the movie as much as the stylized land of Down Town and its characters, as well as many allusions to pop culture that make the movie so much more than it appears at the outset. There are layers upon layers of jokes aimed at filmophiles, as well as plenty of the visual extravagance and nightmare/dream sequences reminiscent of Tim Burton movies. Throw in an alternate ending, deleted scenes, and some great smaller role performances (Megan Mullaley and Rose McGowan to name only two) and this is a superior DVD. Even if you have already seen Monkeybone, watch it again. You'll be surprised by how much more you find in it.
