All Movie Guide - Robert Firsching
While it has its mawkish moments, this is a surprisingly cynical and acidic picture, with its jaded view of romance apparent from the satirical opening titles. Julia Roberts -- in her best role in years -- plays a woman who made a bargain with best friend Dermot Mulroney to marry at age 28 if they weren't already wed. When Mulroney decides to tie the knot with sweet Cameron Diaz, Roberts goes nuts and vows to sabotage the wedding. Rupert Everett is terrific as Roberts' gay confidant, and there are some surprising scenes, including a woman with her tongue stuck to an ice sculpture in a most untoward location. It was a huge hit at the box office, with enough genuine romance to satisfy purists and enough bite for those with a slightly different attitude.

This is my absolute favorite film ever. I loved Pretty Woman, Stepmom, Steel Magnolias and Conspiracy Theory, but, in my opinion, none of those hold a candle to My Best Friend's Wedding. It makes me smile, laugh, and sometimes cry-escpcially when they play 'The Way You Look Tonight' *sniff*. Seriously, this is a terrific film that is worthy to be enjoyed by families and sweethearts alike.

This hillarious commedy kept me laughing the whole time. Julia Roberts puts on a great performance, and Cameron Diaz is histerical. This movie is a must see. If you are looking for a movie that will complete a date or girl's night out, this is the one!!

Once upon a time, there lived some very concerned and fast talking Hollywood Agents, witty Managers and one very powerful Film Studio Chief that adored an actress named Julia Roberts. She was fortunate to star in a major film that became a box office success with her co-star, Richard Gere. Unfortunately, Julia began to follow the ''bad luck'' path and footsteps of another great actress, Katherine Hephurn, and was on the verge of a similar label... ''Box Office Poison''. After a string of ''yawning'' mediocre dramas and box office profits, the mighty Hollywood entourage finally woke up to realize, and (thankfully) convinced Julia Roberts, to put her ''pearly white brites'' were her money was (and still is)... in comedies, not dark dramas. Thank God Julia Roberts chose to star in this (now) romantic classic film. ''My Best Friend's Wedding'' was the movie that made me fall in love with and admire all of the incredible ''colors of emotions'' portrayed by this incredibly intuitive and soulful actress. Not only is ''My Best Friend's Wedding'' a superb comedy, creatively filled with slick - thought out comical scenes, it contains one of the top emotional and romantic scenes in motion picture history. The scene involves Julia Roberts (Julianne Potter) and her old flame, Dermot Mulroney (Michael O'Neal) as they cruise down the Chicago River. Dermott Mulroney (Michael) conveys the importance of verbalizing the three most powerful words... ''I Love You'' ... to someone special if they really cared. The entire moment of that particular scene was filmed, acted, directed, and musically scored in the most astounding cinematic way. It always brings tears to my eyes when Dermott (Michael) gently rocks Julia (Julianne) in his arms as he softly sings ''The Way You Look Tonight''. As they continue to dance, we see Julia's (Julianne's) face with several tears gently gliding down. This scene is worthy to be included for, (and if) The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences should ever present, a romantic comedy retrospective. Watch it. I think you'll agree. Julia wasn't even nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, however truly deserved The ''Best Actress'' Oscar for a triumphant comeback as the ''Queen of the Contemporary Screwball, Romantic Comedy''.

First of all you know it is going to be a great movie if julia roberts stars in it. Secondly you know it is going to be a great movie if the co stars are cameron diaz and rupert everet. This is a romantic comedy but not a pradictable one. I was on the ground rolling with laughter when i first saw this movie and still do the same when i watch it again. It is the one movie if any you can not get enough of. It is my favorite movie ever. If i had to rate it between a one and a ten i would rate it an eleven or higher. I love this movie with a passion.

"The moment I wake up, before I put on my makeup, I say a little prayer for you while combing my hair now, deciding what dress to wear now, I say a little prayer for you," is the anthem for the movie "My Best Friend's Wedding." This film casts grade "A" actors such as Julia Roberts who does a sensational job as Julianne Potter, and Cameron Diaz as Kimberly Wallace. Dermot Mulroy plays the character of Michael O'Neal, which really is just a bonus for all of us women out there. I think that is what first attracted me to the movie. him! It is a romantic comedy about a woman who realizes she is indeed in love with her best friend of countless years. The only problem is that she realizes it too late after finding out he is already getting married to another woman. The audience can include a wide range of people. Males and females will both fully enjoy the sarcasm, comedy and romance of this screening. However females would have a greater appreciation for the romantic parts of the movie because let's be realistic, it is always the women who pay more attention to detail. For example, only a woman would pick up on the heartfelt scene when Michael is telling Julianne about how he asked Kimberly to marry him and his face exemplified happiness and love. Teenage girls would also be a main target for this movie because there is a good looking actor plays the main role. Not to mention, what teenage girl doesn't fantasize about their wedding and the color of their bridesmaid gowns? Since there were no sex scenes or vulgar language, I would also place this movie as a family flick. I would say this movie is open to almost any genre of audience. While watching this film, I found myself laughing and smiling at certain scenes and then at other times in the movie there would be tears running down my face as I cried with the characters. You know a movie is well directed when it can explicit so many different emotions all at one time. There was one scene in particular that stands out in my memory. It is right after Julia Roberts character tells Michael she loves him and goes in to kiss him. Unfortunately his fiancé had happened to go looking for him and comes up behind them just in time to witness everything and see the kiss. Michael then chases Kim while Julia is chasing Michael. I laughed because it was a game of cat and mouse. I also felt deeply hurt for Julia because this is the point when she really knows she has lost Michael and that she is not the one he truly loves. Just thinking of the movie makes me smile and want to watch it for the hundredth time! Unlike most romantic plots, "My Best Friend's wedding," has a realistic twist to it and a very applicable message that most of America needs to be reminded of. It is easy to get caught up in material possessions and making money but society needs to slow down and live life in the present. We have to remember we are not all princesses and we do not all get our happy endings. You have to work for what you want. Girls get in over their heads sometimes about the idea of falling in love and finding the perfect man. However every relationship has its ups and downs and you just have to work through that. The overall message of this movie conveys the importance of saying "I love you". If you care about someone, you need to let them know. You can be in love with someone and not even know it. It is important to appreciate the little things in life and the people in your life because before you know
