My Big Fat Greek Wedding: the little film that could. Everyone by now knows the story of this five-million-dollar film that went on to gross well over 200 million dollars. That being the case, why aren't we seeing a bigger release for this DVD? Not that it's a bad disc, it really isn't. It just seems there's so much more that could have been done for such a significant release. The image, which HBO has wisely included both 1.85:1 anamorphic and full-frame transfers, is a fairly solid presentation. Colors, while generally muted, come across nicely, while the darker scenes are dense and don't show any signs of breakdown. Skin tones are very warm, a real plus for this film. The sound, a 5.1 Dolby Digital track, is certainly adequate for this small romantic comedy. In other words, it's not going to test your sound system in any way. Still, the auditory elements are nicely translated to home video, with clear dialogue and a very pleasing quality. What is lacking with this title are a significant number of supplemental features. Other than some decent biographies of the cast is a commentary track from stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, and director Joel Zwick. This track is often "matter of fact," but has enough humor and anecdotes to keep it moving along. Vardalos and Zwick contribute more than Corbett, but each has plenty to say about their experiences. People tend to love or hate this film. Those that hate it will steer clear of it, while those that loved it will now have the ability to watch it over and over and over.

I wish I could give it more stars. This movie is the best of the best.
Sweet and funny. Sweet and funny. Very Sweet. Very funny. GO SEE IT OR ORDER IT.
I loved this movie so much I saw it three times!!!!!! I think that it's the honesty of it that makes it so warm. Nia Vardalos has done a wonderful job, and Andrea Martin was so funny as the aunt.
This movie was advertised so little, it was out several months before I ever heard about it. It's the funniest, happiest, movie and even made me shed a couple of tears!! The characters are believable and hysterically written! Buy this movie - you'll love it!
This is a hilarious, but poignant and accurate account of a 30-ish Greek woman thrown into dating and eventual marriage by her father, who keeps telling her that she needs to get married, ''You look old.'' The siblings and cousins are trying to help-OH NO!!! Anyone with ANY European blood can identify with this movie. OPA!
I saw the movie before anyone even knew about it. I really didn't know much about it. All I knew is that it's supposed to be funny. When I was told that it's not the typical Hollywood movie, meaning that there isn't any Oscar winning star, I was afraid I won't enjoy. I came with hardly any expectation and I must say, after all, that this is a prize winning movie. It has characters that you can identify with, also due to great acting. The humor is so refreshing and you find yourself laughing throughout most of the movie. The movie is about a Greek girl who is raised all her life to find a Greek husband. When you take an open minded girl, a stubborn father and a BIG and funny Greek family, you can't but not sit at the edge of your seat from excitement unless, of course, you fall out of it from laughter!
Outstanding, funny, heartwarming. You'll want to see it again and again. Thats why I'm ordering the vhs
ITS A GREAT MOVIE FOR ALL AGES REMEMBER ABOUT THE WINDEX WELL IT ACTUALLY WORKS IVE SEEN IT 5 TIMES AND I STILL WANT TO SEE IT CANT WAIT UNTIL IT COMES OUT ON VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie was one of the best movies I have seen yet! Nia Vardalos played an awesome Toula Portocalis, but what was Joey Fatone doing in there? Well, this movie never lost its charm, even after seeing it 4 times already. The same joke keeps working time and time again. I promise you that you will NOT REGRET buying or renting this movie. It's a timeless classic, and not just to Greeks. Overall, an awesome movie, and I highly recommend it!
Everyone can find something to relate to their own family which makes this movie so delightful. I plan on ordering the DVD so I could laugh some more!
It's ''Everybody's family''. Funny, warm, touching, entertaining. You could watch this movie every night and still laugh, cry, want more.
If laughter is the best medicine then this movie is percription strength. I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud in the theatre. Now I can do it in my own home. I'm stoked.
I sat in the theater with my sister and cousin laughing sooo hard when we saw this movie. I thought it was going to be some cheesy cheap-theater movie but was quit shocked with how funny it was. I havent met a person yet who saw the movie and didnt think it was the greatest. Ive already seen it 9 times!!! Ill be the first in line to buy it!!!
When I first heard about the movie I didn't think it would be that great...but I have seen it in theaters 3 times now and could still go back to see it....I can't wait until it come out on DVD...I will defintly have my own copy!
Honestly, the best movie that I can think of that I have seen in the last 15 years. What a great heartwarming and absolutely hilarious movie. STRONGLY recommend this movie... and own it too! Great for last minute laughs
This movie is hilarious! I, too, saw it before it was ''all the rage'' and told everyone I know to go see it. Though it is a romantic comedy about a wedding, it is NOT A CHICK FLICK. Everyone and their brother should watch this one.
If you had the privilege of growing up in any sort of European ethnicity, you will truly be able to identify with this. It brings back memories of when your grandmother meets one of your friends for the first time and she yells, ''Hello, honey...come and eat!'' Also, the part where the groom was taught to say certain Greek phrases so he could impress his future mother-in-law was hilarious. My grandfather actually did that to my poor mother (teaching her Hungarian no-nos)--much to my grandmother's chagrin! This movie is like a visit to Grandma's on Christmas Eve! What a riot!!!
My daughter and son-in-law watched this movie at a movie preview. They urged us to go and watch it, but we waited. When we did watch it we were pleasingly surprised. It is a funny, entertaining feel good about love movie. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We have been patiently waiting for this movie to come out in video. We will ad it to our video library.
My friend and I saw this movie before all the buzz came about; since we love independent type films. I took my daughters back and then my mother. They all loved it and recommended it to someone else. Everyone has known someone that has had their wedding taken over by the family and all that can result from it. I laughed from the beginning until the very end. I hope the series is as good as the movie.
If you are looking for a movie to entertain you, make you feel good when it is over and make you stomp you feet as you laugh, this is the movie to see. I can hardly wait for it to come out on DVD. This will be a movie our family will watch over and over again for years to come. You catch something each time you see it that you hadn't caught previously. Go, get popcorn, soda and enjoy it.
This movie was incredible! I laughed my butt off the whole way through, all 19 times I saw it in theater!!! It was hysterical!!!!!!! Everyone in my family is buying the DVD!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!
