If the language of Shakespeare is daunting to most, image how it must challenge young adults of an African- Carribean district of Northwest London. The challenge of tackeling the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet with a cast of amateurs is the challenge laid on by a young director. To aid and mentor the production, Baz Luhrman assists the crew via internet linkup from Sydney, Australia. The trials to overcome language, self-confidence, and the belief that the theater is only for the elite audiences of London is quashed by the desire and drive of the young actors who must stage their performance with only four weeks rehersal. Staged at RADA, the final performance is a joy to watch as the magic of the master playwrite overcomes their fears and lifts the actors to new found success.
