Overview

Ai Yazawa's popular manga concerning two young women who couldn't be more different despite sharing the same name comes to the screen in this musical drama starring J-Pop icon Mika Nakashima and actress Aoi Miyazaki. Nana "Hachi" Komatsu (Miyazaki) has traveled with her boyfriend to Tokyo in hopes of starting a new life. Elsewhere in this neon-lit metropolis, ambitious punk rock beauty Nana Osaki (Nakashima) arrives determined to become the next big thing in the nocturnal world of rock & roll. On the surface it would seem that these two girls would have little in common, but as they share their dreams and set out in search of true happiness, the girls who couldn't be more different forge a friendship that will last a lifetime. Kentaro Otani directs a film featuring music by J-Rock megastar Hyde.

If you are a fan of, Ai Yazawa, manga (Japanese Comic) series Nana then this is a movie you will want to see. The movie follows the storyline of manga too such a close extent that I was actually content with keeping the DVD and re-watching it again.

I saw 'Nana' a few months ago, and I loved it. It was just a great story about two very different girls trying to find themselves in a world that could easily eat them for lunch. Everyone should see this movie! Plus, it was so good, that they released a second one in Japan. If you love the movie, try the manga and anime that it came from.

This anime/manga is amazing, but I think that they tried to make the movie too much like the anime, and instead, made the movie a little non-realistic. There's some bad acting in here, but otherwise, it's not that bad. However,I totally recommend the anime/manga before you watch this.

This film did a wonderfull job adapting the story from the manga/ anime. I feel that it really captured the essence of both Nana and Hatchi. Most of the music was created by Hyde of the popular band L'arc en Ciel and you can really get a feel for the J-pop and J-rock music that is so different that US bands. Second film was a no where near as good as this one.

I loved the manga and was worried that the I would hate the movie because, let's face it, a movie can never include everything in a book. However, I thought the movie was incredible. Granted, there were some parts that were left out, but it kept the main essence of the story. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who liked the manga. The acting was great, and the two lead actresses really brought out the personalities of both Nana and Hachi.
