If you are looking for deadpan humor and tom & jerry hijinks, then this is the best bet, BELIEVE IT!!! But if you are looking for the best Ninja techniques and look into the secret lives of Ninja Villages, this is it, BELIEVE IT!!!. Naruto finds a way to be all things to everyone. From the slap-happy jokes to the morals in each segment. Unfortunately if you want non-stop Ninja flash, you're going to have to learn some patience. For the first 12 minutes all we see Naruto do is the Sexy Jutsu (which is funnier in the Japanese version, they actually throw-up and have mucous coming out of their noses). There is no lack of creativity in character design and story, and even the theme music is catchy. The story doesn't pick up until Naruto has been accepted to train as a full-fledge Ninja, sort of. While you are overwhelmed with Naruto's desire to be the Greatest Hokage in the first half, you really see how far he has to go in the second half of the dvd. Sasuke and co. offer some friendly rivalry, but the hijinks seem to intensify with them around. The very last episode guarantees the most value for the DVD, Thousand Years of Pain has to be the most unexpected worth the wait moment (no scratch on the Japanese version though), BELIEVE IT!!! --In Episode 1 you find out that Naruto is an orphan with the spirit of the Nine Tails Fox (a god/demon) in him, and that most villagers despise him because of it. You also find out that Naruto is in training to be a Ninja, but can't cut the grade, that is until given the proper motivation from an surprising unscrupulous source. Will Naruto graduate from the Ninja school? --Episode 2 Introduces us to Naruto the graduate, and the importance of the Hokage (grand super ninja of a tribe/village). We get to meet the Hokage's Grandson and see more of the Sexy Jutsu. Naruto and the Hokage's Grandson seem to be two peas in a pod, just one problem the Grandson's Elite trainer doesn't like Naruto one bit, and wants to eliminate Naruto. Will Naruto be able to handle an Elite Ninja just one day after graduation? --- Episode 3 Naruto makes friends with old friends. After graduating and dealing with the Hokage's Grandson, its time for Naruto to begin the real Ninja training. But first he's got to deal with some old "friends". We meet Sasuke and co. again, and everyone shares their feelings about each other, Yay!!! But there's trouble brewing under the surface as the group is separated into teams. Can Naruto put his feelings aside and become a team player? ---Episode 4 Naruto finds out along with Sasuske and Sakura and the rest of the group, that they really haven't graduated. All they have really done is just earned an oppurtunity to test to graduate. And wouldn't you know it, Naruto's group gets the one sensei who has a penchant for being extremely hard and demanding of his students, and suprisingly has a low graduation rate, very low. Do Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura have what it takes, or will Naruto's journey to be the greatest Hokage end before it begins. If you seen the american version on Toonami, then you know what i'm talking about when I say the mood changes as quickly as a traffic signal changes lights. Be prepared to get lost, but have fun laughing at yourself for getting lost, BELIEVE IT!!! Naruto, Vol 1, a great buy, an awesome gift for any anime head. Buy it today

Short, too short. After the first couple of background episodes and character building episodes, you get into the meat of Naruto. You'll find yourself salivating in anticipation of the next volume's release. Translation is not that bad compared to some other Japanimation TV series that re-release in the US. That in mind, you should have a great time rooting Naruto on as he comes to grips with Sasuke, Sakura, Kakishe, the Hokage and others in the Leaf Village. Just try not to think about how they sealed a 10 story tall Fox with Nine Tails inside the stomach of a little baby.
