National Geographic Video - Inside the Vatican

( 6 )

Overview

The Vatican may be one of the most famous places in the world, but it's also among the most mysterious; very few people have seen what lies beyond the Vatican's walls, and even fewer journalists have had free access to the tiny walled city that is the home of the Catholic Church. Beautiful and Inspiring!

The Vatican and surrounding buildings are so beautiful; I never realized how much outstanding artistic presence exists there, from the beautiful ceilings, sculptures, tapestries, paintings, books, and more. Learning about the Vatican - a tiny city within a city - and seeing the beauty, the business side of things, all of the various restoration processes, the soup kitchen, learning too much to post, actually created an emotional reaction within me. Martin Sheen did a wonderful job narrating. Hearing the boys choir sing, and seeing the beauty of the Vatican, I can't help but wonder if Heaven looks and sounds like that. I want to learn and see more.

    Breathtaking!

It is magnificent to see the Vatican and the amount of history inside. I am so proud to be a Catholic after viewing this. In light of Pope John Paul II's death, I am so pleased to know that he led a life that was more than comfortable. He has suffered so much and gave light, peace and love to everyone he came in contact with. He was a man of humble beginnings, and I am sure he was not impressed by the extravagance of his surroundings, but appreciated their beauty.

    GREAT INSIDE LOOK, BUT

The National Geographic name guarantees quality - and this one does not disappoint. But this is not an examination of Pope John Paul II and his legacy -- this is a more general look at politics and life inside the Vatican.

    Excellent, Must See

An excellent report on the inside of the Vatican. Not only does it show the true history of the church itself, but of the Christian roots. A must see by all Chrsitians, not just Catholics. Gives true accountings of not only great popes, but bad ones as well. Amazing treasures of history that allow you to set the monetary value aside and realize the treasures that the church has saved for the world. Pope John Paul is truly depicted as a saint and rightfully so. Most people do not understand his awesome burden. Highly recommended

    Not for everyone

This 90 minute film tells about the history of the Vatican, its artwork, ceremonies, succession and the business necessary to keep the joint running. If you're not yet completely disgusted by religion, seeing how the pope and his hundreds of lackeys wallow in luxury should do it for you.
