Kenny Ortega's musical Newsies comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Ortega, a pair of featurettes, a short documentary about the real-life incident on which the film is based, storyboards, and a karaoke section. Whatever one thinks of this infamous turkey, Disney/Buena Vista has done a spectacular job with this disc.

"Newsies" was a very nice little movie that just didn't get enough of it's respect that it desurved. I got 2 copies of the DVD for my 17th birthday so that when my parents get older , they can enjoy the idea of a bunch of New York newspaper boys working for Pulitzer and Heirst in the year of 1983/ Buy this movie!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a must have!!!
I've loved this movie ever since I was kid. I'm now in my twenties with a child of my own. And wouldn't you know this is my son's favorite movie. He knows all the songs, tries to imitate the moves, and ask at least once a day if he can watch it. What makes it so amazing is that he was barely a year old when this film captured his heart and imagination. It's not mindless dreck like many kid's movies these days and makes you want to get up and move instead of sit there and zone out. And instead of wanting to bang my head against concrete as he watches it again and again, I enjoy it too.
i really enjoyed this movie. the songs and dances are very entertaining, and the enthusiasm of the young cast really carries a sometimes weak script. surprisingly, the people who seem to fail the most are ann-margret and robert duvall, two of the major adult characters. ann-margret's character comes across as unnecessary to the entire story, and robert duvall's portrayal of the neurotic and slightly insane mr. pulitzer is interesting, but bizarre. while the movie drags a bit towards the end, it's worth watching the first half.
Oh my gosh! This movie is so great! The songs are so amazing, with catchy toons and hot guys singing them...its great!!!!!!!!! Jack Kelly is so amazing! He's a great actor!! That is THE greatest movie I have ever seen! Definitely go see it! Its hillarious, and moving at places! SO great!!!!!!
Newsies was a classic tale about the struggles in 1800's newsboy sales. The musical was an amazing representation of what was happening, even better, through a musical. This musical has amazing winning numbers, and a fabulous cast including the wonderful Christian Bale, Anne Margaret, Robert Duvall and more! This a great family film and this 90's Disney movie is a great movie for all!! 2 Thumbs Up!
And the world will know that the broadway show is better.. Newies, the classic is about a newie (who are kids who sold papers in 1900's) named Jack Kelly. Jack meets Davey and Davey's little brother, Les. But when disaster strikes, the money goes up of the newspaper (the newies had to buy their newspapers). It's up to Jack and the newies to get things back to normal. I said the broadway show is better because broadway show has better dancing and singing. But, if you can't see the broadway show, just buy and listen to the broadwaysoundtrack. Also, in the movie the love interest is Davey and Les's older sister. But in the broadway show, it's the reporter ( which in the movie is a boy).
Newsises is the best Musical, Comedy, and Drama ever made I love Newsies. It is one of the best musicals ever made. What I love about Newsies is that the movie is a Disney movie and its a musical. Love Christian Bale when he was young in Newsies and Little Women and also Ann Margaret did a really good job and so did David the boy from Big before tom hanks appearance. Robert Duvall did a good job and Bill Pullman did a great job and I love all of the songs in Newsies and Newsies is a family movie and it is a Disney movie watch Newsies you'll won't regret it
This is one of the best movies ever made. They call it a box office failure, probably because it wasn't based on filthy sex and stupid crude language but once you see it you will agree that it is one of the finest movies ever made.
I first watched the NEWSIES in school. I love the newsies, especially SPOT CONLON!!! NEWSIES is one of my favorite movies.
We borrowed this movie from the library and watched it. The music is FANTASTIC. Both kids and adults will like the story and the dancing is fabulous. I ended up getting the movie as a gift for my daughter and all my kids have watched it over-and-over!
I think that Newsies is a totally great movie and I absolutly love it! I have seen it about a million times. Christian Bale and David Moscow are totally hot and the music in it is great!
I borrowed this movie from a friend, and I really didn't think it would be all that great (she has some weird tastes) but after the first ten minutes, you wouldn't have been able to pry me away with a crowbar. This movie is amazing!
when the newsboys of new your city face the challenges of the powerful- does their union fall apart? or will the break the will of the mighty bill and joe?
I saw this movie for the first time when I was 29 years old at the theater. The music is great. The costumes, the characters, everything is so well developed. It is a movie for all to see. It's just a plain good movie with no excess hype to mess it up. I am now 40 years old and I saw the movie again for the first time in 11 years. It was like fresh cut grass on a rainy afternoon. Awesome !!!
I loved this book. there was a great story ine and some very hott characters "spot colon, broklyn newsie" the singing and dancing was wonderful as soon as i saw this movie i bought it.
I saw Newsies with my friend a few years ago and didn't think much of it. I was too young to understand the humor and overall greatness of this movie. This year,I was 13, I decided to rent it and I totally fell in love with it. It's the best movie ever. The singing and dancing was spectacular. I envied the talented actors. My favorite characters were Jack Kelly, David Jacobs, Racetrack, and my overall favorite: Spot Conlon. I love their New York accents and phrases that they use in the movie. I often quote the characters. This is one movie that you have to see. You are missing out on one of the greatest movies of all time if you haven't!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE I HAVE IT ON TAPE AND EVER CHANCE I GET I POP IT IN TO THE VCR AND WATCH. I LOVE SINGING AND DANCING AND NEWSIES HAD THEM BOTH GREAT SINGING AND GREAT DANCES. IT'S NICE TO SEE A MOVIE WHERE EVERYONE IS HELPING ONE ANOTHER AND NOT TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER.
Newsies is the best musical I have ever seen!! The actors all did a fabuous job, especially Christian Bale. It is a great movie with terrific songs and a strong plot! A must see!!
