This concert video makes its appearance on DVD in a simple but impressive package. Nicolai Leipzig: Live Concert from Church Street has been transferred to DVD in letterboxed format with an aspect ratio of 1.77:1, which has also been enhanced for playback on widescreen monitors. Viewers have a choice of two audio tracks -- one in Dolby Digital 5.1, and another in PCM Stereo. The disc also includes subtitles in French and German. In addition to the main feature, the DVD release also includes a bonus documentary, Protest of Silence, which examines the extraordinary political events which this concert commemorates.This concert, held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of a series of peaceful protests which dovetailed with the final collapse of the Berlin Wall, features an outstanding performance from the Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig, under the direction of Herbert Blomstedt, at the Church of St. Nicolai. Selections include Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," Beethoven's " Symphony No. 5," and Mendelssohn's " Hore Isreal and Furchte dich nict"; guest soloists Nancy Argenta, Viktoria Mullova, and Jurgen Wolf also appear.
