The new night watchman at New York's Museum of Natural History finds that the job comes with more responsibility than he ever dreamed in this wild fantasy comedy directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Mickey Rooney, and Dick Van Dyke. Larry Daley

The new night watchman at New York's Museum of Natural History finds that the job comes with more responsibility than he ever dreamed in this wild fantasy comedy directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Mickey Rooney, and Dick Van Dyke. Larry Daley (Stiller) is a kind-hearted dreamer who always knew that he was destined for greatness, he just never quite knew how. None of his ideas or inventions has panned out, so with a heavy heart, he takes a regular job as a lowly graveyard-shift security guard at the Museum of Natural History in order to provide a more stable life for himself and his ten-year-old son. His first night on the job, however, he finds that guardianship of the museum is far from stable -- at nightfall, an Egyptian spell brings the artifacts and wax figures to life! With Attila the Hun charging to war through the hallways, the diorama miniatures embroiled in a deadly feud, and a two-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex nagging to play fetch, Larry has half a mind to turn tail and run. On top of cleaning up after two million years of historical chaos every night, he also has to make sure that not a single museum piece leaves the building -- from the bratty Capuchin monkey in the African exhibit, to the life-sized Neanderthal in the prehistoric display -- because if morning light falls on an escaped artifact, it will turn to dust. Larry turns to a wax replica of President Roosevelt (Williams) for a little advice on keeping things in tact, but Teddy seems to think that a man of Larry's greatness needs little help. Larry isn't sure if the former commander in chief is right; this is hardly what he signed up for, but he can't pass up the chance to care for a museum where history really does come to life.

All Movie Guide
It's pretty rare for a movie to evoke laughter and delight for audiences both young and old, but Night at the Museum pulls it off. The film stars Ben Stiller as Larry, a divorced dad who's reluctantly given up his dream of entrepreneurial stardom to take a position as the night watchman of the New York Natural History Museum so he can provide more stability for his son. If the sound of an inanely sweet family-oriented comedy makes you want to wretch, however, you have nothing to fear. Night at the Museum occupies itself with Larry's personal story just enough for you to follow him on his wild ride. This film doesn't kid itself: you don't see a movie about a museum where the dinosaurs and mummies spring to life at night because you want to learn a heartwarming lesson. What you want from this kind of fantastical adventure is a couple hours of fun, and this is Night at the Museum's brilliantly simple secret to success. It skips many of the sappy and contrived clichés of the PG realm and doesn't spend too much time revisiting Larry's home life. Instead, the film lets Stiller (along with straight-man co-stars Carla Gugino and Jake Cherry) bring Larry to life through his reactions to what you came to the movie for in the first place: the magic. Stiller is a delight in this regard, at long-last finding a comedic balance between his squeamish, embarrassment-comedy side (à la Meet the Parents) and his over-the-top, bombastic-farce side (à la Dodgeball). With just enough restraint to play the foil for the funny and enchanting special-effects ensemble, he conjures up an average guy we can both laugh at and cheer for -- all while exercising a great skill at physical comedy, of which there is plenty. Stiller throws himself into dives, pratfalls, and chases with impressive energy and deft control (suggesting that he must be in seriously good shape). But along with all the slapstick you'd expect from an adventure comedy, Night at the Museum also benefits from the ironic wit and smart satire of screenwriter Ben Garant (Reno 911!). The result is a clever trick: while your grown-up side is sated with the kind of dry humor that marks Stiller's collaborations with Owen Wilson (who co-stars as a miniature cowboy from an Old West diorama, but spends most of his screen time feuding with Steve Coogan, a miniature Roman Emperor from the warring display next door), the kid in you is free to revel in childish wonder and excitement so completely that when the requisite dorkily happy ending appears in the distance, you probably won't even notice.

Daddy Day Care was funny. I thought that the company could only make movies like Daddy Day Care. "Wich was pretty funny, but not alot" but when I saw Night at the Museum,I was laughing in my sleep that night and I do every time I see the movie! My mom laughs and so does my dad. And I know if there's a funny movie or not because my dad does not laugh easily. And since he laughed in Night at the Museum, I know this movie is very funny. Same with my mom.

This movie is one for the entire family. Ben Stiller does an absoultly wonderful job in this movie. When I first saw this movie I wanted to see it over and over again. Kids would love it. What kid dosen't like things in a museum to come to life at night. I wonder what it would be like to be the night guard and be surronded by tons of living things when they weren't real a few hours before. Anyway this movie is great for the entire family with the action, humor, and adventure. There even is a slapping monkey!

This movie made me want to visit the museum of natural histroy. The historical characters were entertainting and I thought it actually had some educational value in introducing these people to kids. It was funny and exciting too.

Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, and Robin Williams teamed up to create one of the funniest movies since Jumanji. The movie is based on that style of movie, but has so many laughable moments including some intense action sequences.

This is a great family movie! Stiller is hilarious. There is no language or anything offense, perfect! I think what else I liked about this movie is that even though he is a struggling dad, it doesn't focuse on that, a nice easy going film to just loose youself in. I think the special effects were great, and not over powering. One of the best scenes is when Jed and Octavious finally join together to help Larry, and they are letting the air out of the tire! Just genius comedy!

This was a pretty good and entertaining movie about a security guard, a museum and the characters that come to life at night while trying to impress his son.

This is one of those rare films that has it all, and Ben Stiller has really impressed me in it. A brief scene with his mom, Ann Stiller, along with the exchanges with the rest of this delightful cast convinced me "at age 63" to attend this movie in the theaters on three occasions with my grandkids. It is one we'll own on DVD and watch when we need a good laugh. I may even give Ben another chance.

This was a fantastic movie. The storyline was very unique and clever. this is a family film that you can watch over and over again and still laugh every time. For those of you who haven't seen it, believe me when I say this, you're abs will be aching from laughter.

This movie should be one of the all time worst by Ben Stiller. I was shocked and appolled this movie. I went to see it expecting a good movie by Ben. Don't worry i won't make that mistake again.

It's about time for Hollywood to return to the 80's! This will be a classic movie--just like the "Amazing Stories" series of the 1980s.

This movie is a must-see for people of all ages. It is able to entertain the younger children by having the animals of the museum come to life, and it is able to entertain adults through the wonderful performances of Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, and Owen Wilson. Although the plot line is fairly simple, it does contain a few subplots that add touches of drama and romance to the movie. Overall, it was a highly entertaining movie that has the potential to become a family classic.

I thought this movie was great! It's about a guy named Larry looking for a job at the beginning. He gets what he thinks will be an extremely boring one. His first night of being the night guard at the museum of natural history in New York, he receives a shocking surprise. EVERY exhibit in the museum comes to life at night. This results in key-stealing monkeys, man-eating lions, a T. Rex that thinks it's a puppy, and similar mayhem. A wax figure of Teddy Roosevelt saves Larry from some crazy diorama figurines, and explains why this happens. A magical Egyptian artifact called "The Tablet of Ahkmenrah" belonging to a pharaoh named Ahkmenrah is the cause of all this. The next night (after nearly deciding to quit), Larry thinks he is better prepared, but he isn't. He ends up by nearly getting fired. But he gets one more chance. That night Larry brings his son with him to see it, but nothing comes alive. He rushes over to the Egyptian exhibit to see whether the tablet is still there. IT'S BEEN STOLEN!! Then sundry things such as regaining the tablet, making everything alive, getting locked in the Egyptian exhibit, almost getting speared by two big Anubis statues, letting Ahkmenrah out of his sarcophagus, and having a certain Egyptian king translate Hun (quote-"He says he wants to rip you apart." unquote) make this a unique film worth watching. The special features are cool, too.

His first night at work he found that out.Someone stold this tablet that makes everything to life. He trys hard to get it, and he finally does and all the animals are safe. Night at the museum is about a guy named Larry who needs a job as a night guard. For a museum. But, at night the musuem comes to life at night. But,when the former night guards take the special tablet he goes the extra mile to get it back. And get his love Rebecca.I enjoyed this movie because it was fully of comedy and full of laughter!!! lol Also, some of the character were funny too, like the Easter Island Head he said,'' give me gum-gum,dum-dum''.He said that so muchit was funny I laughed at loud! "Rexy" the dinosaur acted like a dog and every time he wanted someone to throw him a bone. Also, the monkey " Dexter" it was funny when he took Larry's keys andthetime he was slaping each other.
