Overview

In this slick exploitation, martial arts fantasy from schlockmeisters Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, an evil ninja is killed off in a sandtrap on a golf course in Phoenix -- the police riddle him with bullets, foolishly thinking that is the end of it. But as he is dying, the ninja throws a smoke bomb and, hidden by the dark cloud, he crawls into a phone-company van driven by the acrobatic Christie (Lucinda Dickey of Breakin'). As he dies there, his soul possesses her body, much to the consternation of her boyfriend, Secord (Jordan Bennett). Christie periodically uses exotic Eastern skills to slaughter the evil ninja's foes until good ninja Yamada (Sho Kosugi) comes to her rescue.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
This action-packed oddity is one of the more memorable entries in the ninja film craze of the early '80s. In true B-movie style, Ninja 3: The Domination tries to combine as many exploitable elements into one eye-popping package: ninjas, demonic possession, and even aerobics are among the things worked into the film's crazy-quilt plot line. Of course, it can't succeed at making all these elements work in one story, but its attempts to do so make the film fun to watch. Ninja 3: The Domination benefits from surprisingly good acting. Lucinda Dickey has enough charm and skill to make her transition between nice girl and possessed warrior work and Sho Kosugi cuts an appropriately stoic and tough figure as the ninja master who has to exorcise the heroine. Kosugi also handled the film's impressive martial arts choreography, which provides all the high-kicking thrills that fans of the genre expect. Behind the camera, director Sam Firstenberg lacks the skill to overcome the ridiculous extremes of the plotting, but is smart enough to keep the action scenes front and center and maintains a solid, speedy sense of pacing throughout. All in all, Ninja 3: The Domination amounts to little more than cinematic junk food, but it offers plenty of colorful fun for martial arts film fans and '80s movie cultists.
