Not Another Teen Movie

Overview

Columbia TriStar's Not Another Teen Movie is the spoof to end all spoofs, or so studio execs want viewers to believe. The film did have its hysterical moments (most of which were broadcast in trailers during the movie's theatrical run), making it worth a watch on a rerun-packed Tuesday night. The studio presented Not Another Teen Movie in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, wiping out dust and smudges and creating a crisp, clean transfer. An English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and a French Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround ...

An English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and a French Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround create a decent audio experience, with clear music and dialog soundtracks. Columbia TriStar loaded special features onto the disc. Director Joel Gallen and co-writer Mike Bender lead off one commentary track, while the movie's stars, such as Chyler Leigh and Jaime Pressly, host another. The former embraces the more nuts-and-bolts style of commentary, explaining how this was made and why. The star-studded second commentary is like eavesdropping on a bunch of worn-out partygoers as they watch a home video of last week's toga party: slightly lively, rather entertaining, not very educational. Up on deck is a teen-movie I.Q. quiz, 18 deleted (often hysterical) scenes, an alternate ending, and a three-part featurette entitled "School's in Session," with each section focusing on one aspect of production, such as the set design. Wrapping up the spoof package are a music video, audition montage reel, stills gallery, and trailers. Not Another Teen Movie isn't the best flick on the block, but the extras aren't too shabby. In fact, the entire package is pretty entertaining, especially when all the subliminal parodies woven throughout the film are understood.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
With the onslaught of teen fare at the turn of the millennium, which mirrors a similarly fertile period in the 1980s, it was inevitable that a broad lampoon in the same vein as Scary Movie would spring forth. The less nasty and often more fun cousin of that horror spoof has arrived with Not Another Teen Movie, whose title is just the first bit of overdone self-awareness that hits more than it misses. A quintet of screenwriters pull off a minor miracle in riffing on whole story lines from countless films, without straining the minimal logic required of a yukfest like this. Taking its major inspiration from She's All That, notably the fact that eyeglasses and overalls qualify a beauty as the school's "ugly outsider," the movie coasts along on a succession of gross-out sight gags befitting the era of its release, while maintaining an '80s lightness that keeps the vibe giddy. Where the film sometimes sputters is in the extent of its self-reflexivity -- when Janey (Chyler Leigh) accuses Jake (Chris Evans) of poaching dialogue from She's All That, it draws too much attention to the satirical project at hand, best buried under the surface. Similar gripes can be made about naming the school John Hughes High and including an awkward cameo from a Brat Pack star in the closing frames. But the guilty-pleasure hits come in inventive ways, such as parading around a constantly nude exchange student (a jab at American Pie) and creating a character who always starts the obligatory "slow clap" at all the wrong moments.
New York Times - A.O. Scott
Not Another Teen Movie is a happy, nasty and frequently hilarious assault on 20 years' worth of youth pictures...
Boston Globe - Jonathan Perry
A clever satire that's layered like a breakfast club sandwich with sly in-jokes, sight gags, gross-out scenes, and, of course, requisite bathroom humor...

Not Another Teen Movie is a Great Parody

Jamie Briggs is the school nerd in overalls, a ponytail, and glasses. Zack Wiler, the most popular guy in school, makes a bet with his friends on the football team that he can turn Jamie into prom queen. His attempts to court her are just the beginning of this hilarious adventure through high school politics.

    SWEET

This movie is hillarious! It's some crazy good fun. But you know what makes this movie the greatest? Getting to see the Yellow Ranger's boobs. (Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy's Cerina Vincent) A great buy!

    Hahaha!

I can't help but laugh while watching this whacky movie!! I can totally relate because I knew most of the Movies they made fun of..especially the character of freddie Prinze Jr. in She's all that and Cruel intention(lolz!). Moreover, I didn't notice Molly Ringwald at the end of the movie..not after watching it for the second time..nice!!

Teen Movie not for Teens -- go figure!

I realize this film was supposed to be tasteless but this was way beyond tasteless and crass -- and both my husband and I liked Me Myself and Irene which was tasteless but funny. I felt that a lot of the content was inappropriate for a ''teen movie'' -- as opposed to AutoFocus which I saw the night before (there was a LOT of nudity etc. in Auto Focus. It was probably not absolutely necessary to show all that nudity but it wasn¿t inappropriate for the films subject.) The very first scene in the film has the main female character ''unsheathing'' a 12 inch floral patterned vibrator and using it on herself when her family walks in to wish her happy birthday. I was amazed at the amount of incest ''humor'' in this movie. If the women aren't partially or totally nude, they are talking about sex like they're pornstars and one even talks about defecating on her sex partners. In my opinion, this movie could have been a really good, funny, somewhat intelligent parody about teen movies (and there are a few funny spots); but, the writers and directors couldn't decide if they wanted to make a teen parody movie or a porn movie.

    A new favourite

This is a great flick from start to finish. Yes it's a spoof, but somehow it doesn't come off that way. Even though it's taking off so many movies, it has a really original bite to it. The jokes are at times (the majority of) low brow, but along with the acting are quite clever. ''Teen'' varies from other spoofs in that it doesn't merely ridicule the movies it's taking off, rather uses them for the basis for it's own original comedy. Whether you like it or not, it's a very well researched and written movie. The choice of characters, wardrobe, setting and the scenes it intends to spoof are all top notch. It's hard to pick a favourite from such an intentionally goodlooking and talented cast but I'd have to go with Austin, the cocky blonde guy. His smugness, lack of intelligence and basically the faces he pulls are hilarious. Jake too. The main attraction of this movie is the fact that you don't have to have seen all the movies ''teen'' spoofs to enjoy it. It plays well as a spoof and just as well as a normal comedy. My favourite scenes include ''the breakfast club'' detention scene (can't explain why, it's just great), the ''Rudy'' and ''Varsity Blues'' football takeoff and cheerleading song (it's really clever). Other highlights include Malik the token black guy and Billy Bob, I mean Reggie Ray. Who ever came up with that deserves something. It cracks me up everytime I say it. Good on Billy Bob for actually spoofing himself, not many people would. Also keep your eyes and ears open for a few littles classic lines from Austin at the beginning of certain scenes. You need the subtitles on to get them but they're gold! Plus look for a dude in the ''Loser'' hat in the football crowd. If you've seen all the movies ''Teen'' takes off you'll understand how clever it is. If you haven't youll laugh all the way through it anyway, promise!PS: Someone said it rips off clueless, I can't see it. If anyone can tell me in which seen it does this, please send as an email, appreciate it.
