Overview

This NOVA DVD release is a pleasure to watch -- the film-to-video transfer is state-of-the-art, in 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen, and the sound is crisply and vividly mastered; that's especially helpful in the sections of the program that take us through computer-generated mockups of the ship's interior as well as presenting the way in which the vessel is presumed to have been sunk. (The Yamato was so secret that most of the preliminary design drawings were destroyed, and its loss, and any investigation deriving therefrom, was kept secret from the Japanese people essentially until the end of the war.) The 56-minute feature has been divided into five chapters that correspond with the major sections of the documentary, and comes appended with printable support materials accessible from a computer DVD-ROM drive.
