Old School

Overview

Unquestionably the Animal House for the 21st century (there are too many similarities to count!), Old School has come to DVD from Dreamworks, and they've done a fine job on this title. The 2.35:1 anamorphic image is outstanding in every way. Detail is strong, and colors come across perfectly. Overview

Unquestionably the Animal House for the 21st century (there are too many similarities to count!), Old School has come to DVD from Dreamworks, and they've done a fine job on this title. The 2.35:1 anamorphic image is outstanding in every way. Detail is strong, and colors come across perfectly. The transfer is as close to a direct translation from the theatrical print as you could get. As is common now, there is a chopped pan-and-scan version available separately and both rated and unrated versions for the widescreen version. Both 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS tracks are included, which may come as a surprise. Occasionally there are some directional effects, but for the most part, this soundtrack is centered in the forward speakers. Regardless, these are fine tracks, distortion free, with clear dialogue. This release is further punched up by the addition of a number of supplements. Up front is a commentary from director Todd Phillips and stars Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, and Luke Wilson. Just as with the film, this track is a party and a pleasure to listen to. Also included are eight deleted scenes, some of which could easily have been kept in this short 90-minute film. For anyone familiar with cable's Inside the Actor's Studio, a 21-minute "Inside the Actor's Studio Spoof" with the same group in the commentary will produce additional laughs. In addition to standard biographies and productions notes is a studio PR featurette, photo gallery made up primarily of direct shots from film, the theatrical trailer, and four television spots. It's hard not to laugh at the crude humor of Old School and this DVD simply adds to the experience.

Under Reitman's deanship, Ferrell lets his freak flag fly and Vaughn unlooses a notably funny, light-on-his-feet lunkheadedness.

In terms of sheer belly-laugh count, this one's in the same plentiful company as There's Something About Mary and Road Trip.

    You're my boy Blue!!!

This movie started as an underground comedy to me and my friends. It opened our eyes to the genius talent behind Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn and I haven't looked back since... Great one liners, great dialogue, and great physical comedy.. this movie has it all... <BR/><BR/>"I think I see Blue... He looks glorius!"

Old School, One of the Most Hilarious Comedies You'll Ever Witness

If you have not seen the comedy “Old School” then you are missing a great laugh. With Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, and Luke Wilson as the stars of the movie, you will not be disappointed with this two-hour long stretch of pure fun. This movie, while some parts are quite fictional, relates well to college students, especially those in a fraternity or sorority. Will Ferrell (Frank) and Vince Vaughn (Beanie) long to relive their college years at their friend’s expense. Luke Wilson (Mitch) buys a house on a college campus, because he wants to get away from his broken relationship with his wife. Mitch comes home at the beginning of the movie to find her sleeping with another man. Frank and Beanie create the brilliant idea that they will start a college fraternity on this campus, but they run into a terrible problem because the dean remembers how ruthless these men were to him in college, and he is trying to get rid the campus of them. As three older men, who once lived the college life, try to start a fraternity, they meet many challenges with the college’s administration. The challenges that these men endure are what make the movie so funny. In one scene of the movie, Frank loses his wife because of the time he spends at the fraternity house. "Old School" is a great movie based purely on the non-stop laughter you will have. Between the challenges of the commencement of the fraternity and the everyday lives of Frank, Mitch, and Beanie “Old School” gives every audience a sense of humor about their own lives. Not only is the movie hysterical in and of itself, it illustrates to everyone that life should not be taken so seriously. In the end, Mitch gets the girl that truly loves him, and Frank is finally happy once he becomes the president of the fraternity. Beanie goes back to his normal life of selling audio equipment, but he still lingers around the fraternity that he helped build. The final moral to the movie is how the founders of the fraternity take care of the students they pledged into the fraternity. Yes, the pledgeship that these students endure is quite comical, but when they are faced with being expelled from school, the three founders and all the students in the fraternity are what push them through the tough times. This is a movie that you must see if you enjoyed your college years and if you just need a good laugh.

ONe of the Best Comedies Ever

This was truly one of the best college comedies I have ever seen. Animal House was a classic, but give this movie a few years and it will surpass Amimal House! The entire cast is amazingly led by Will Ferrell-the modern day king of comedy. The movie really shows how no matter how old you are or where you are in life-theres always time to have a great time and party down!!! REALLY RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE with a sense of humor. NEEDS A SOUNDTRACK!!!

    An Innovative Comedy

It is a rare day when a comedy emerges from Hollywood that can be placed among greats such as ''Dumb and Dumber'' and ''Caddyshack'', but ''Old School'' does just that. While it may not be on exactly the same level as these legendary titles, the innovativeness behind ''Old School'' will provide the film with incredible staying power. The film centers on the story of three thirty year old men who decide to start a fraternity at the local college when they realize they are slipping into the daily routines of middle aged males. Starring Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, and Luke Wilson, ''Old School's'' cast comes together to form the perfect comedic team. Will Ferrell represents the party crazed branch of the trio, and his every action is so funny, his entire performance is worth discussing or quoting. Vince Vaughn is a sharp tongued, witty electronics entrepreneur who is always behind the risky actions of the group. Finally, Luke Wilson is a sort of protagonist who contributes to the laughter when he is placed in hilarious situations by his two friends. Each actor brings something critical to the comedic genius of the film, and it would be hard to imagine anyone else playing their rolls. Overall, the film is one of the best comedies to emerge from the mediocrity of Hollywood in years. The plot is hilarious, and the film is worthy of quoting for weeks on end.

    A Devilishly Good Time!

Old School Rating:***** Frank(Will Ferrell), Mitch(Luke Wilson) and Beanie(Vince Vaughn) decide to start a fraternity when Mitch buys a house right next to a college campus. The fraternity provides an escape to the lives of men of and past college age who want to get away from their everyday lives and just have a good time. When Dean Pritchard (Jeremy Piven), the dean of the school, tries to shut the fraternity down, the fraternity brothers are forced to defend their right to have a fraternity. This leads to hilarious stunts and other tricks they pull to keep their status at a fraternity. Do NOT expect to get some important message or a moral out of Old School. Do expect to laugh. Old School is a movie that brings about childish slapstick humor, which is performed mostly by Will Ferrell. This is a comedy in its purest form. The film stays away from developing the characters too well, but this adds to the movie because its sole mission is to make you laugh. Although this movie has a love story involving Mitch and Nicole (Ellen Pompeo), it does not bother to go off on tangent of the movie's main goal. This is the type of movie that viewers will really hate or tremendously love. This is because its scattered, unorganized script must be able to be appreciated. For this reason, the movie appeals more to a younger and less mature audience. The younger audience can more easily brush off the lack of a central idea and just sit back and laugh. This movie is a delightful comedy that will keep you guessing, and while you are guessing, you will be laughing. I thoroughly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to get away, or to just laugh away for the entire length of the movie. Although I have heard many people go off on how they did not get anything out of the movie, I thought to myself that Old School embodies why many people see the movie, to get away. That is just what the movie does.
