Overview

This second film adaptation of Richard Matheson's science-fiction novel I Am Legend the first version being The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price unfolds in a post-apocalyptic 1976. Charlton Heston is Robert Neville, the sole recipient of a serum that enabled him to survive an onslaught of germ warfare between Russia and China - which seemingly rendered him the last normal human alive. Neville lives in a garish, antique-strewn L.A. penthouse. During the day, he roams through the vacant city. At night, he fends off a bloodthirsty horde of mutant scavengers garbed in Spanish inquisition robes and sunglasses, led by Matthias Anthony Zerbe, a former television newscaster in his good ol' pre-mutant days. Matthias and his half-human vampires want to kill Neville. Neville's last man on earth status is shattered when he comes across a group of young people, presided over by the sexy and cynical Lisa Rosalind Cash. Neville begins to form an interest in her, as the two try to keep Matthias and his minions at bay. The Omega Man was filmed in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoons, an area that consists almost exclusively of office buildings, and therefore was suitably vacant at the the time of production. In 2007, Matheson's novel received yet another incarnation - this one with Will Smith in the Heston role. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

    Best rendition but bad ending

Of all the I Am Legend movie remakes, this is probably the best one even though the ending sucked. The Will Smith's movie was terrible...it insulted Richard Matheson's classic work. But back to Omega Man, I liked the way L.A. looked deserted and run down. I even liked Charleton Heston. If they hadn't written in the hippie vamp cult headed by Anthony Zerbe, the movie would've been okay.

Te best sci-fi movie of its time.

Five out of five stars far better than I am legend. More action and better acting a clasic. I hope some day they make a part two to the omega man to hard to remake this movie.

Blue Shag, Avocado Fridges, The Omega Man

This movie is enjoyable simply because it has a high cheese factor due to the fact the film has dated horribly. Some of the shots, such as the one depicting deserted LA city blocks, are still impressive. Goofs such as a moving car being visible in the distant background of said deserted blocks only add to the fun. A campy nostalgaic ride.

    Old movie current event

One of the less than biblical roles performed by Charlton Heston, The Omega Man depicts an at the time after vision of the effects of biological warefare on America. With the current SARS alert in the US and abroad, this old film is even scarier. Worth watching, especially if you are an old Creature Feature fan.
