Overview

Even without money problems, many divorced single parents have a hard row to hoe. At the drop of a hat, a competent, responsible professional person can be reduced to a frazzled, bumbling parent, when his or her children become unexpected daytime wards. This is what happens to Jack Taylor George Clooney when his ex-wife suddenly decides to elope, leaving their daughter with him. Unhappily for him, his reporting job demands one-hundred-percent commitment as he attempts to link corruption with city hall. The same ...

Overview

This is what happens to Jack Taylor George Clooney when his ex-wife suddenly decides to elope, leaving their daughter with him. Unhappily for him, his reporting job demands one-hundred-percent commitment as he attempts to link corruption with city hall. The same sort of thing is true in the life of architect Melanie Parker Michelle Pfeiffer. She must not only somehow prepare a complex multimillion-dollar real-estate development presentation, but must also keep up the pretense that she doesn't have a son because her boss loathes children. When Jack flubs his assignment of getting the two children off on a school day-trip, he and Melanie, who barely know each other, have to take turns caring for the kids. Mishap follows mishap, as the initially antagonistic Jack and Melanie get to know one another.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Karl Williams
There's no denying that One Fine Day is the lightest of lightweight romantic comedies, but two likable leads with palpable chemistry work overtime to sell their parts and rescue the simple affair from becomming too vanilla. The device of using toddlers to bring a pair of harried, overworked parents together is just a little bit precious, but having the protagonists accidentally swap cell phones (in 1996, no less) is a fine and inventive modern-day plot device. George Clooney and Michelle Pheiffer have incredible chemistry, which helps foster momentum in their ongoing series of meet-cutes, which often take place on busy New York streets, in the back seats of taxis, and in what look like uncomfortably cold March rainstorms. The two seem to really like each other, in spite of their constant digs and carping. Much like the fiery dynamic betweenKatharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, the interplay between Pfeiffer and Clooney gets the audience on board with their would-be romance, despite the characters' protestations.

    My FAVORITE Movie!!

This is my favorite movie of all time! Its so well done, and it just captures everything well, and brings you right into the scene. Both of the actors playing Melanie and Jack can act well, which makes it all that much better. You can feel the connection between them, unlike those sad excuses for movies, such as Only You or Someone Like You-where the actors are horrible! Anyway, I recommend this movie for ages 11 and up. It really shows how kids can screw up your day! ITs hilarioius, sweet, and so much more! Buy this movie now!

Great Movie; Read the Movie Guide review before mine...

The review from 'Movie Guide' is not politically correct. Melanie is Jack's ex-wife's baby-sitter, and usually takes his kid to school. But Jack doesn't know this, so he goes off with his daughter and leaves Melanie and her son to wait. Of course, all four of them are too late to catch the field trip bus. Jack offers to take care of both the kids while Melanie does her presentation if she will look after them while he has his press confrence. She says no way, and you can just imagine what happens. This movie is really great and shows the importance of family and people being there for you.
