One Love: Bob Marley Tribute Concert

Overview

With an impressive listing of artists and songs, One Love: The Bob Marley Tribute comes to DVD. The disc is presented full frame as it was on TNT when it first aired. While the film obviously doesn't use an anamorphic transfer since it wasn't filmed in a widescreen format, the image isn't disappointing in any way.

The reds, greens, and yellows so commonly associated with Jamaica are bright and well saturated, with no bleeding. The sound is, of course, the main point of interest on this DVD and it's terrific. While the PCM track would be good for a standard television without a Dolby Digital sound system, the 5.1 track really shows off what a good DVD can do. The surround elements are not the strongest, but that is more than made up for with the front center and sides. Sound is very clear, with no distortion or scratchiness. But what about extras? Palm has done a great job in this department also. Along with the 19 songs that were broadcast on TNT, there are five bonus songs which are in Dolby Digital 2.0. Also of interest is a 40-minute documentary with interviews, backstage footage, and a multi-angle presentation of the final song, "One Love." The documentary includes soundchecks of the artists preparing for the show and interviews with Rita Marley, her kids, and a number of the artists involved in the concert. The other big extra is a multi-angle presentation of the big finale. Finally, the disc includes a photo gallery of Marley set to "Redemption Song" and a discography of the artist.
