Outland was always one of my favorite sci-fi films: a suspense-thriller set in deep space with surprises all the way to the end. Sean Connery is an amazing lead in this movie, as the new police chief of a mining facility on another planet, who begins to piece together why the miners are starting to go insane. I grew up with films such as this, Alien, 2001, Blade Runner, 2010. It is really a crime-drama that is set in deep space, without aliens or monsters. It tackles issues that we face today, while exploring the mystery of what it would be like in zero-G. This is much lesser known than many other sci-fi films of that era however its timeless quality that focuses on the characters and plot make it easy to ignore the simplicity and lack of CG special effects. It may be not as well-know, but it is certainly one of the best.

is my vote for Star. She might have been chosen for actual acting
ability and not her physical beauty--like actresses in most other
one-dimensional space operas are--but her likeability and believability
are great.

I remember when I first saw this movie. I tracked it down again to watch it. It has an interesting plot with our hero finding ways to survive against professional hit men and a final surprise opponent. He also finds a way to straighten out his life. Any movie with Sean Connery as a star I will enjoy. I can only wish he would start starring in G and PG movies.
